Cafe Fiorello has changed their menu........not for the better. Before you dine there, call and ask about your former favorite selections.
We arrived promptly for a 4:45 dinner reservation, only to be greeted -- if you want to call it that -- by a grumpy host at the front podium who apparently didn't like the color of our skin. At least three times we had to remind him we had a 4:45 reservation. But all he could do to respond was to say, "Uh-huh." He didn't seat us until 5:30, and when he finally did so, offered no apology or explanation, including why he offered tables to patrons who arrived after us with later reservations. Surprised to find a new menu.......very pricey! We requested to order the pizettes..only to be told not until after 8 PM....shortly thereafter the table next to us was served 4 pizettes? Three of us ordered the eggplant Parmesan dish only to find it to be a very small portion barely warmed up for about $30. Our server was efficient and very helpful...she did bring the manager to us so we could air our complaints.needless to say we were disappointed.
This restaurant is a good choice for after Lincoln Center performances, but the food is just average. The room is loud and frenetic. The portions are embarrassing huge. Anti-pasta and pizza seem to be the best choice. Our overstretched waiter did a terrific job trying to be attentive with little help from busboys.
With a choice of many available tables, we were seated right by the kitchen. The rest of the restaurant was beautiful, but when the kitchen was in full swing, not so much. The waitress took our order then returned to say one of the chicken dishes was unavailable, however the chicken for the parmesans dish was. This indicated to me that the food was pre-cooked. Are you kidding, we having had or food yet!!!! Food took forever to get to the table on a Sunday evening at 6:30.
Mass production food in a mass production restaurant. Too many tables in a too-small space. Food was OKI, but forgettable, and over-priced, considering ho-hum quality.
Who brings a birthday party for children to a pre-theater dinner at Fiorello's? A young couple who were indifferent to the comfort of their fellow diners. Although the hostess gave us a table on the other side of the back room, after trying to seat us next to the birthday party, the noise level was still astounding in a restaurant that is always pretty noisy.
