They never had my reservation which was very embarrassing
even with the restaurant half empty, service was inattentive and very spotty. Do you have to ask for water, bread, etc. multiple times and wait 5-10 minutes to have your request filled?
We had not been to Cafe Fiorello for some time and were excited that our schedule allowed us to fo there. However, we found the restaruant changed and not for the better. I expect the financial crisis has impacted their business. The first sign was the very limited breadbasket that appeared with not the quality we had remembers. I have eaten many times at Fiorello. This time the main course, veal milanese was inedible and the green salad wilted and tasteless. The fried artichokes were delicious. the service was perfunctory. The dessert wasa failure but that may be a matter of taste.
Although I usually enjoy the ambience, service, and food in what has been one of my favorite neighborhood spots, this latest visit was very dissapointing! There were many people who had made advanced reservations but there was insufficient staff to seat them and that was only the start of a disappointing experience. We were disappointed. Service was exceedingly slow and promises repeatedly made that it would take only 3 more minutes were blatantly not true. The steaks were tough. Antipasta was very good. Slow service dictated we had to forgo dessert and coffee. Wine was good.
Asked question about menu & waiter said it was self explanatory. 5 in our party, yet bread basket had only 3 items. We weren't offered the complimentary mimosa. Waiter asked what I would like to eat, but heard him continue to talk. He shouted over our table to another waiter then asked me to place my order again, & again he continued with the other waiter. The service was not gracious or helpful when we had questions about the food. The appetizer and the main course were .soaking in excessive oil. The atmosphere was comfortable and pleasant but I would not recommend this restaurant for food or service.
We hadn't been to Fiorello's for several years. We remembered it as noisy but the food and service were always very good. Sad to say this experience was not good at all. Service was indifferent. Their outdoor cafe was open and it seemed the kitchen and wait staff could not keep up with the crowd. My husband's wine was knocked over by the busboy and we were not offered another glass or a break on the price. Once we were served our entree we were ignored. Needless to say, we will not be returning.
