My overall experience with Caring Hands has been positive. However, we lost our dog to cancer in January, and despite trying to update our information on-line, calling to request the information be updated and attempting to opt-out of email we continue to receive "overdue" messages for vaccinations and check ups both through email and mail. Please be mindful that these reminders are often painful for the owners of pets we have lost & update your systems accordingly.
Business response:
We are deeply saddened to hear about the difficulty you've had in trying to stop these messages from coming through. We know how traumatizing this can be and want to make every effort to help -- it is certainly not intentional. Please contact our marketing manager, Rachel Ray, directly at rray@caringhandsvet.com to identify the issue and have it taken care of for you immediately.
We relocated back to the DMV from another state in 2020. We previously lived in the area in 2017. Because my dog had been to the Clarendon location in 2017, I thought it would be great to just have his old records transferred from the Clarendon location to the Arlington location when we moved back. Because he's on daily medication for the rest of his life, I wanted to try and maintain some stability in getting his medications timely since they already had some health records for him. What a disaster! I spoke to a receptioni... read more

Thank you for taking the time to speak with us this morning. We are definitely working on adjusting to our new schedules and protocols with recent changes and are deeply disappointed that we did not meet your expectations and it is not indicative of our usual client service. We understand how it important it is to get the medication your pet needs, especially after a move. We are grateful for the feedback and will always strive to do better.
I've been to both the Alexandria and the Arlington locations and find that there is a lot of miscommunication between the offices based on their records. if you got your rabies vaccination at one then you can't get the records from any of the other offices for some weird reason. If you want to get heart worm or flea and tick preventatives you can't just pick them up at any office despite that your dog is a current patient at another location. Nothing leans towards making anything easier for the customer. I've had great vet... read more

Took 3 pets there for three years. The staff was discourteous and continually unhelpful and lied to but more recently the reason for the change was that we felt swindled. There was constantly a reason they needed more tests or more vet visits or tell us we didn't need to see a vet but a lab person only to find out we did need to see the vet and had to come back so we then were paying for double visits. My cat has been stable with his medications for 10 years. They are scamming us. Don't go here. They care about $$$ not pets

Very rude and poor customer service. When my Vet retired, I was referred to Caring Hands. I called ahead to see if they were "taking new patients", and that I had been referred by a neighbor who takes their dog there. The female who answered the phone (didn't state her name) replied, It Depends, you'll need to come in we don't accept referrals over the phone. Once I arrived, with shot record and health record in hand, I was told it would be at least 4 hours before someone could even talk to me. When I asked if I should ma... read more

I brought my 14 yr old dog into see the doctor. She had his blood work from about 4 months prior. She prescribed 3 meds to give my dog at once.....3 weeks later I had to put my dog down because of kidney failure. What I found out later is that the blood work showed my dog was starting to go into kidney failure 4 months prior. What the doc said was.....the dog's kidney values are elevated. Going into kidney failure and having elevated values are two different statements.....the latter being not as alarming as the first. ... read more
Make sure they explain all the charges to you! I brought my dog in for a dental cleaning that turned into an extraction. I'm a pretty smart person- the way it was explained to me was that there were two scenarios, estimate 1 was $450 for just a cleaning and estimate 2 was for $650(cleaning with extraction). NOPE- it's $450 base fee plus an additional $650+ for extractions, pain meds etc. It was over $1000 out the door. Not sure I'll be back here even though I've been a customer since 2009.
Business response:
Thank you for sharing your concern about your recent visit. Dental procedures are always hard to estimate before the pet is sedated, as we have not been able to take dental radiographs or examine the mouth in more detail. With this consideration, we provide an estimate for a dental without any extractions, as well as a supplemental estimate if extractions are needed. On the initial estimate, we do include wording that says "Additional Extraction Cost on 2nd Page," in an effort to convey that the extraction fees are in add... read more
Have tried giving Caring Hands multiple chances over several years and I've always just been disappointed. The biggest issue I've seen with this place is that it just seems like there are too many people working there without enough communication between their staff. Our dog has health issues that require us to order her medicine through 1800petmeds and Caring Hands made this process much more difficult than it should be, or than it was with any other vet. If there's an issue with an order I place, Caring Hands should call m... read more

I brought my cat in for blood work, which took two techs sticking my cat several times before they could find a vein. Once they finally got the blood, the tech asked me if I'd like her to clip my cats nails while we were there. Stupidly I said yes and it took about two minutes as my cat is very easy to deal with. But when I went to check out there was a $21 charge on the bill for nail clipping! And they called it a discounted rate. Give me a break! I don't pay that for a manicure, and they take a heck of a lot more skill an... read more
