I would recommend complete avoidance. Despite clear instructions to never dilate my eyes, because of past adverse reactions, the nurse went ahead and did it anyway without telling me what she was doing. When informed, she tried to turn it around and blame me for not stopping her. A complete lack of professionalism and failure of patient care. I will never return and can never recommend to others.
Business response:
We apologize for your experience at our practice. Our technicians and physicians would never intentionally give drops or medication that would cause an adverse reaction. In fact, we are so concerned about always providing top quality care that we have employed a very precise electronic medical records system. We very much value your feedback and again apologize if there was any misunderstanding during your care.
Not sure this is the place to go if you just want regular eye care -- not Lasik or some high-margin cosmetic procedures. I was a patient from a number of years back, when Dr Coad still personally gave eye exams to the hoi polloi. Then the signage in the waiting room started to make it clear that their priorities had changed -- this was a Botox and Lasik shop...the higher-margin stuff. I value continuity of treatment, not being foisted off on the young associate du jour who knows nothing about my history, so I left. I came ba... read more
Business response:
Dear John G. We apologize for the experience you've had at our practice. While our practice is known to be outstanding for LASIK and cosmetic procedures, and we have doctors who specialize in those procedures, our roots go back to comprehensive eye care. We've been performing comprehensive eye care since 1993 and have a large following of patients. While sometimes patients are offered appointments with our associates, you can be assured that these associates are excellently trained, board certified and have the deepest care... read more
They spend a lot of time devising ways to be less patient friendly. I have been a patient here for years and considering going elsewhere. The office staff is brusque, they have an endless array of rules and regulations, are always extremely late (I waited an hour after my appointment today), and they stick me with a new junior "doctor" each time. Nice office, though. I guess design and self-promotion are very important to them.
Business response:
Dear Steve D. Thank you for taking the time to review our practice. The patient experience is extremely important to us. We spend a great deal of time training the staff to be pleasant and to treat each patient like family. We have been in practice for 20 years and our senior doctors are expert surgeons and therefore spend much of their time caring for complicated surgery patients, whether they are medical or elective in nature. All of our physicians are board certified and superbly trained. We sincerely apologize that you d... read more
This place is the worst! Dr. Eviatar is arrogant and careless. He prescribed a medication that I'm allergic to, without telling me what it was. Then I called up to tell him that he prescribed something to which I am allergic. Dr. Eviatar refused to even get on the phone. His nurse told me that I should keep using the medication, and it wouldn't be a problem because it was "only topical." They were wrong. I had a very serious reaction to it.
Business response:
From Dr. Eviatar: I'm very sorry that you had a bad experience at our practice. We truly go out of our way to treat our patients with the utmost care. If I was unable to get on the phone and the call was directed to one of my assistants, please be sure that it was because I was busy treating other patients. While there are always possibilities for prescription errors, we have had one of the most state of the art electronic health records systems in our practice for a year and a half in order to minimize medical errors. ... read more
Horrible experience more than once! the first time I went I waited for over two hours for Dr. and get our and then left. I swore I would never go back, but I needed something removed from my eyelid and my optometrist said Eviatar was the only specialist he knew of for the procedure. Dr. Eviatar prescribed an antibiotic ointment that I was allergic to - they didn't tell me what they were prescribing. When I had a reaction and figured out what the drug was I called his office. One of his office staff- without asking what my re... read more
Be prepaired to wait. I had LASIK performed a year ago and am now at my return visit. I was satisfied with the procedure but very dissapointed in the wait times. Over four visits I have waited at least an hour per visit past my appointment time to see the doctor. This appointment was made 3 months ago and I have been waiting for over an hour. This is a constant at this practice. Very disrespectful of patients time.
Stay away! I came here for Botox a few times and had to stop coming, despite incredibly convenient location to where I live. The assistants/nurses here are extremely aggressive about pushing expensive products-- they will do this whether you ask for information or not. I was phoned after leaving the office about a facelift despite being in my mid-thirties and having no desire to do such an invasive procedure. When at the office, I felt as if I were at a used car lot - once I even broke down into tears because one 'nurse' kep... read more
Another poorly run practice that seems to think its patients have nothing better to do than while away the hours in a waiting room. If you're getting some high-margin treatment, you can expect the red carpet. If you're one of the unwashed coming in for something less glamourous - like monitoring the health of your eyes - prepare for less solicitous treatment. PS - If anyone's found an opthalmologist in NYC whose office runs efficiently, please send me a message. I'm looking.
Business response:
We very much respect our patient's time and agree that a long wait is unacceptable. We are grateful and fortunate that our practice has become so successful due of the expertise and the hard work of our doctors and staff and our desire to make accommodations for emergencies and last minute appointments. We are making great strides to balance providing the most advanced treatments and personalized care to each of our patients while still running consistently on time. We thank you for your input and will continue to strive ... read more
I visited Dr Eviatars' office on July 15, 2010. I was looking to have lower eyelid surgery, known as blepharoplasty. First, I had a free consultation with his staff Amy Eidelman who spoke of a under going a lower lid retraction & I later met with Dr Eviatar for a paid consultation of $200. Dr. Eviatar said he would not perform a lower lid retraction and what I needed was Juviderm injections which would be the same cost as the "lower lid retraction". I decide to think it over. I did some research on "lower lid retraction" and... read more
Business response:
POSTED ON BEHALF OF Dr. Eviatar: Dear Mr. S., Thank you for your feedback. YES, Lid Retraction is indeed a condition, not a treatment. As an oculoplastic surgeon who has nearly 20 years of experience in treating lower eyelid retraction, I do apologize if there was any confusion regarding the procedures needed to correct this condition. We do encourage patients to get a second opinion and Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital is a very respectable institution. This is where I did my fellowship in Ophthalmic Plastic, Co... read more
