Get directionsMy mom was in Hoag Hospital and they recommended three different facilities. The only reason we chose Crystal Cove Care Center was because it was close to the hospital and my brother's house. They asked me to pack a suitcase for my mom with comfortable clothes since she was going to be doing rehab, pj's and personal items that she needed. Come to find out after I picked her up from being there for three weeks, she was never able to wear her own pj's (they had her in a hospital gown the entire time) and they made her wear ... read more
Let me start by saying I'm a SICU registered nurse at Cedars Sinai in LA. Feel free to look up my name, it's a matter of public records! My grandmother was transferred here from Hoag after an ORIF surgery to fix her broken ankle. They had a Covid outbreak two weeks ago, my grandmother was negative when she left the hospital and was one of the many patients who got infected at this rehab. They have lost her clothing while moving her to an isolation room. Doctor Ianculescu has not rounded on her for days, per staff "she's ou... read more
My 81 father who has stage 3 cancer, pneumonia, sepsis and a list of other aliments had a horrific experience at this skilled nursing center. Less than 24 hours after his admission, I pulled him and placed him in another facility near by. My father was being picked up by 6pm to be personally transported, but they decided that a gravely ill patient should be dumped in their lobby like a piece of trash to wait for his family to get there. Their complete lack of care and compassion is beyond comprehension. Earlier that eveni... read more

Business response:
David, I apologize for your experience at Crystal Cove. I understand how you were frustrated with not getting your pain meds. You attending physician was called and wanted to reduce the amount of pain meds you were taking. Unfortunately we cannot administer pain meds without a Physician's approval. That was not a Crystal Cove decision, that was a medical decision based upon your past medical history by your attending Physician. As for the treatment for your big toe, the nurse placed a bandage and had the treatment nu... read more
My 89 year old mother was admitted to CCCC from Hoag Newport Beach after suffering several strokes. She has brain damage--doesn't think she has had strokes, cannot come up with words, is extremely fatigued, sometimes slurs her speech. I spoke with her yesterday. She said she finally had a bath after being there a week! After our call, I called the center and spoke with the nurse at the nurses' station. A woman was shrieking in the background for the entire time. The nurse was unable to confirm that my mother had had a ... read more
Last September of 2018 my client a 94 y.o. female was transferred from Hoag to the Crystal Cove Care Center. Due to her MRSA diagnosis she was to be placed in a private room. That did not happen. This was the start of her horrific stay. When my client would push the call button for assistance it would be very long waits sometimes over 60 minutes to receive help. One evening while I was there visiting I pushed the call button for water. It was well over 40 minutes waiting for a response while I visited with her. I wen... read more
This place is the equivalent of a very cheap motel. If you really love your loved ones, please take them to a decent place.
HORRIBLE ADMISSIONS DEPARTMENT! Promised beds and acceptance only to find out that they were none available and they weren't accepting my loved one. Admissions coordinator Ashley made promises she could not keep and notified no one else on her team about the pending transfer of my grandmother. Spare yourself the agony and empty promises and don't be allured by the fancy building. Go elsewhere for your skilled nursing needs.
Business response:
Ashley, I am sorry for your experience. Everyday our census will fluctuate. Many times we will have open beds when families tour, by the time residents are ready for discharge we may have had some admissions. Usually families tour 2-3 days in advance from admission. I believe you were offered to hold a private bed hold for your loved one, but that was declined.
My loved one was at this facility due to a hospitalization from dementia. While her benefits were at a maximum, the staff from the nurses to administration and CNA's very nice. The minute her benefits ran out and we inquired about long term stay and were approved the nightmare began. The nurses and administration would call me a minimum of 2 times a day, telling me that my loved one could not be there unless I could provide a care giver for her and have the caregiver assist with meals, personal care and sometimes getting m... read more
