In June took our very sick dog in for exam. One of the veterinarian assistance advised us to look into the insurance plan called paw plans. Knowing that we would need continuing care we signed up. That day we were charged for various procedures as well as the paw plan over $600.02 weeks later our dog stopped eating and drinking. We took him to an emergency pet hospital where they told us he had a mast cell tumor . Sadly, we had him put down. We miss him. The following Monday day we called the veterinarians office and let the... read more

Business response:

We are so sorry for the loss of Luca. Losing a beloved family member is incredibly hard, and you have our deepest sympathy. Regarding your Paw Plan, the monthly payment helps spread the cost of preventive care over a year. Because discounted services were used at the time of enrollment, there can still be a balance even if a pet passes away before the plan term ends. This is well explained in the contract that was signed when Luca was signed up. We also want to address your recent visit. Another long-time client who witn... read more

I have to add that I don't believe their other so called exotic vet knows what she's doing with guinea pigs. She couldn't examine one's teeth and said she had a cataract when she doesn't. Maybe she's good with rabbits or some other exotic animal, but not guinea pigs. I run a sanctuary and have picked up on a lot over the years. I'm not an expert, but I was uncomfortable with getting a bill with hardly anything checked and things ignored. I greatly missed Dr. Bloedel when he was on temporary leave and am glad he's back.

Business response:

We appreciate your feedback, Rynn. We will take your comments into consideration and strive to improve our services for small animals. If you have any further concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us at (805) 647-8430.

I used this veterinary practice for approximately 5 years and was happy with the care my dog received until I needed to take him in for a problem he had after having his anal glands expressed. He was chewing his rear end and started scooting again. In addition he was very lethargic. When I called to see if I could bring him in I was told they couldn't see him for 2 weeks, but he would be put on a cancellation list. So much for emergency care! Will I be going back .... No way. I called another clinic and got him in with... read more

I've been taking my guinea pigs here since 2009. The office staff used to be professional and empathetic. Not anymore. They are rude on the phone and in person and they do not take the care of small animals very seriously. While waiting to check out, I witnessed and elderly man, crying to office staff that his dog wasn't eating. The staff didn't even provide him with emergency vet info. They just told him to come back tomorrow. I started taking my dog here because of the history I had and because I loved Dr. Fowell (retired ... read more

Do NOT take your Guinea Pigs here. They will misdiagnose which will ultimately lead to their death. We lost two under their care. I'm only leaving two stars because they're nice and I don't believe it to be intentional. They're just not properly educated to handle cavies. RIP Zero & Scraps.

My puppy was extremely sick last night and because I didn't have the $95 to pay, they turned her down and offered to kill her. They are heartless and didn't care! My puppies a 4 month old husky pit, I love her like a child. What in the fuck is wrong with these people?

Business response:

Thank you for the review. However, I think you are leaving this on the wrong veterinary hospitals site. We are not open at night and we do not charge a $95 emergency fee. Nor would we offer to "kill" your pet.

My review is based on their customer service and lack of professionalism. I did not attend this location. Timeline of events: I researched their business and followed the steps on their website to schedule an appointment (first available appt was 3 weeks out). I received an email from them confirming my appt. the next day. My appt was for a Monday morning. I received a voicemail at 4:38 pm on Friday evening (2 days before my scheduled appt) saying if I didn't call back by the next morning to provide my credit card informatio... read more

Business response:

We apologize for any inconvenience caused by our communication process. We understand your frustration and will take your feedback into consideration to improve our services. There is a message on the site that states: New clients must call the hospital 48 hours prior to leave a deposit or appointment will be cancelled. Perhaps that was missed. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

My mother has been taking our pets to East Ventura Animal Hospital for over 30 years. We used to see Dr. Fowell who was absolutely amazing, but has since retired. Unfortunately, recently we had an experience where one of our dogs was dying and we called to try and get her in to be seen and we were told that we could make an appointment for the following month. There wasn't an ounce of sympathy or any effort to try and get her seen by someone. So disappointing. My mom then asked to have the records of both of her dogs availab... read more

Business response:

BEWARE; do NOT sign up for the paw plans. Once you do, all they care about is collecting their money. Brandon will threatens customers with sending them to collections if you miss a payment. It's all about the money and the profits and not about the health of your baby. Brandon has zero empathy, compassion and no basic human to human interaction skills. He is very confrontational and doesn't allow you to speak. He will make you feel stupid and like a liar, and worse part is that they are the liars. I was told I would be able... read more
