Get directionsAs a real estate agent who has placed many of my clients at DKLB, I worked with Joe Dass who was the leasing person for many years. He was professional and courteous. In short, he was a pleasure to work with. He has been replaced by "Kim" who begrudgingly gave me her name after I asked three times who I was speaking to on the phone. I could almost hear her eyes roll. I couldn't have been more polite in my inquiry. What has happened to phone manners? I love the building but this leasing agent needs the heave-ho. She gives a h... read more

I stayed here for my first year at the New York film academy. Upon my arrival I was given a room with black mold growing in the tub, and a huge hole in my closet. Huge enough to fit a raccoon. Instead of fixing any issues. I was told "it's not a lot of mold" and instead of fixing the hole, they placed mouse traps all over it. That room was so bad I never once had an opportunity to use the shower. I had to use a friends every day. Whenever I was in that room the mold would cause me to get skin issues. Eventually I was moved... read more

Hi Chris, thank you for the feedback from when you stayed with EHS in 2020-2021. Providing a safe and comfortable environment is our top priority, including during the height of the pandemic when many dorms remained close. When you alerted about a mouse in your room, we acted immediately. Ultimately, we are sorry to hear you were not happy with your experience and your feedback is appreciated.
Constant construction. Hallways are always being painted random colors - based on what is cheapest at the paint store that day apparently! Very ugly colors. A/c system is moldy and gives you constant head colds and sinus issues. Leak in ceiling over my bed has been there most of this year and can't get it fixed. TV hasn't worked the entire year. Very overpriced for what you get!!
If you care about women at all DO NOT stay here. My friend had nowhere to go at 3 am and in an emergency situation I brought her to my apartment even tho we have a 'no guest policy' which is ridiculous in and of itself and was changed to be that way after I signed the lease already and had no way out. Not only did they coldly kick my friend out onto the street, the security stood there and watched as a sexual harasser came in off the street and harassed her for 5 whole minutes while I was on the phone with her in my room. I ... read more

Hi Bridget- We have read your review and we do appreciate your feedback but choose not to discuss this on social media. Our Associate Vice President of Student Life reached out to you last week for follow up and to explain further the safety measures in place regarding visitors Hopefully , you will be able to respond and meet with her soon. We do very much care about our residents and therefore managing our residences during a pandemic has caused us to implement additional protocols.
I'll start with the positives: the room is a good size, and it has an apartment-sized fridge and a microwave. The location is great too. You're right by the Brooklyn Bridge and several subway lines, and it's much quieter than Manhattan. All the negatives, though? The bathroom has cosmetic updates but isn't that great. The tub is horribly stained, and there isn't a fan to draw out the moisture after you shower. You have to go down numerous floors to a communal kitchen that is usually filthy (I've seen the cleaning staff in t... read more

To begin with, I would say that every available option in this building is way too expensive compared to other options even in the area. I would advise people to look into the article in the NY Post about how they gouge students for sub-par living conditions. In addition, the administration is terrible at dealing with any disputes between roommates, and offer nothing in regards to other options. They have a handbook posted, yet it only serves to absolve them of any legal liability; the administration makes no effort to ensur... read more

Adam, we are sorry to hear that your roommate experience didn't go well and we weren't able to resolve it for you. I can assure you the article you are referring to is from over five years ago and regarding former management. We have a very committed staff trying to make our students' stay comfortable, and we are sorry that this wasn't the case for you. Should you want to discuss this further, please feel free to email me at cchatfield(at)studenthousing(dot)org. - Christy
The biggest waste of money. The entire place is gross. After one week living there, I realized the fridge was leaking freon and making all the food toxic. I've seen roaches all over the place, in the kitchen, stairs, and rooms. Also, after reading another review , I set up a camera in my room and watched as the RAs go in your room when you are away, and look through drawers. They are also extremely not accommodating. My neighbor across had a dog that would be barking throughout the night until I woke. I thought animals weren... read more

Hello Kali, It is unfortunate that this housing accommodation didn't work out for you. I invite you to discuss these or any other concerns with me. We can also include your school as well, as they are a great partner with us. You can reach me by emailing studentlife@studenthousing.org.
BIGGEST REGRET SINCE I MOVED TO NEW YORK WAS LIVING HERE!!!!! EHS is the worst student accommodation I have ever stayed in. THE PRICE IS OUTRAGEOUS. The building is old and has a lot of wear and tear. The rooms are plain, worn out with uncomfortable furniture. The staff here are the rudest I have ever come across (both security guards and EHS "accommodation directors" as they call themselves). You have to pay to have guests and they literally try and grab every cent out of you. Things break a lot as the building is old and t... read more
