Avoid taking your kid! Had my 8 year old daughter get a kids cut with Emily. She wanted it curled with a curling iron and one part up with a hair clip. Curling hair was great. But when asked to put a part up with a hair clip that I provided the cost jumps from $37 to $90 as it would be considered an "up do". I asked to talk to the manager and she was absolutely no help! We've been getting kid cuts here forever and I'm sad Alexis stopped doing them bc she even gave my daughter a French braid once when she had a kid cut and no... read more
I have been going to Gene Juarez for many years and in the past six months started going to the U Village salon because it was convenient. I saw a stylist on four occasions who prided herself on her expertise. On the second session with this stylist I showed her a photo of myself from three years back and said that was what I was going toward. She responded by announcing loudly, so that everyone turned and stared, that I could not do that with "this hair". I figured she was having a really bad day so let it go. But, the... read more
TWICE now I have been charged for $35 dollar conditioning treatments that I didn't ask for after my baliyage (sp?) at the Northgate location. Since this had happened before, I specifically asked if it was an added charge and was told it wasn't. Then, when I was paying my $145 hair appt became $180. I paid it but vowed never to return. Happening once may have been a misunderstanding but TWICE is not okay. Be careful when getting your hair done here! They are not specific about charges. I gave it 2 stars because I really e... read more
My mom and I have both gone to see Stephanie to get our eyebrows done a couple times and both times her and I left feeling offended. I'm not normally one to complain, but she acted in a completely unprofessional and passive aggressive way. The first time I saw her she offended me by criticizing me for my religious beliefs and that I attend a religiously affiliated university. It was completely inappropriate. Especially for the situation. Next time I will not go to University Village to get my eyebrows done, and go somewhere ... read more
Got an eyebrow waxing at the University Village location, and the aesthetician took so much skin, it's taken more than 4 days to heal. Emailed customer service and was told I should have taken more precautions to protect my skin, and was only offered a refund and some sunscreen. Thanks for not charging me to get injured. I can't believe that after dropping almost $400 there in one day, that's all I'm worth as a client. I will never get waxed at GJ again, and after my customer service experience will never give them anoth... read more
Had a very disappointing experience here. Won't bother with details, but after two disappointing trips (the second to fix the first one), I went to Ulta to get my hair done the way I had originally wanted it, and the stylist there did it exactly how I wanted it, professionally, and at a much better rate. GJ is cozy and posh, if you're into that, but their services and products are overpriced and I felt like I was being ripped off.
It's happened to me three times now - I have a special occasion coming up and decide to upgrade my hair cut from my usual $25/cut (very good) stylist and get something "special" at Gene Juarez. I go in with pictures and a lot of explaining about what I want, and end up leaving wishing I had stayed with my tried and true stylist. After the most recent cut I received (yesterday) it dawned on me that at the $55 level there, the stylists are inexperienced beginners and, at least the one I had (I'll spare naming him), have absol... read more
My stylist left Gene Juarez, but I still see one of the colorists for my Balayage. While I love my colorist - I am really disappointed in Gene Juarez. THEY ADDED TAX onto my service. I have been going here for years, driving out of my way from Mukilteo to go here because of loyalty to my stylist and colorist and the salon has now added an extra fee to my already pricey service. I was already on the fence after hearing how little of the money they make actually goes to their employees - now I will be looking for a new coloris... read more
I have gone to Gene Juarez for years - most recently the Northgate Salon and have received excellent service. Yesterday, because of time conflicts, I scheduled an appointment with the University Village salon. When I explained the hair cut that I have been receiving from staff at Northgate, the University Village staff person said that the cut would not look very good, would not be right but if I insisted she would do it but it would not look good. So, I took a pass. I didn't want to force her to cut my hair the way the N... read more
