I feel bad for writing this review but I don't know how I feel about my last hair cut. I've been going here probably a couple of times and I've seen the same person twice or even three times. But, this last time I went I got someone new and I wanted a trim. She did the wash and stuff and did a trim. She styled it and curled it. I wish I could have given more stars because my hair turned out great. It was just customer service that was a huge no. I showed up ten minutes before my appointment(10:50) and i got checked in, and was told to go sit at the waiting area. Before i knew it, it was 11:15, okay, no biggie maybe they're running behind. Then it was 11:40, so I'm like the fuck is going on here. My experience at gene juarez was awful. When I called to set my appointment I gave the woman over the phone a description of what I wanted done, we discussed everything, she placed me on hold & came back with what was agreed upon full foil & cut; a total cost of $275. On the day of my appointment I received a text from my hair dresser, Alex, at 12 asking if I could be there in thirty minutes even though my appointment was at 2. I have been a GJ customer for more than 10 years. My stylist Emily is amazing, I just love her! I understand with the new restrictions due to COVID-19, that my normal GJ experience was going to be different. No changing into a gown. No sitting with a cup of coffee and a magazine before my appointment. No hair washing (unless I request it). No blow out/styling after my haircut b/c blow-dryers spread the virus. I. Get. It. Every time I try to book at Gene Juarez, I am reminded of why Gene Juarez is now my "literally only if there are NO better options" salon and spa. They ALWAYS charged me for a FULL color when it was only my roots that needed done. HIGH turnover. They can't keep employees long term. They always just up and leave. Annnd the very last time they made me wait in between scheduled cut and color over an hour while they fir someone else in between. NEVER AGAIN. I left wet hair and all.
I already have a balayage and came in wanting to go lighter and fix it up on the top. I told the stylist what I wanted a showed a picture and ended up walking out very disappointed because it was the complete opposite of what I wanted. She did some work to the top, but didn't even touch my bottom hair. My hair looks exactly the same, except for I have orange/yellow "balayage" that looks more like bad highlights. I went to Gene Juarez to schedule a hair appointment because I had heard good things. I'm sad to say this was the worst customer service I have ever received at a salon. At first, when I came, a really sweet girl at the front desk offered me a consult and I was happy to have this done. I told the hairdresser I wanted highlights the same color as the ends of my hair to blend out my roots. My ends are pretty light and my roots are pretty dark. I have been going to Gene Juarez since I was in high school. There are many great stylists there that I know but I wanted a cut and color quickly and decided I would trust new people.
