It wasn't what i expected I was so excited to stay at the Harbor View for the first time as it is such an icon of Martha's Vineyard. There must have been some sort of sports tournament for the weekend as the hotel was filled with pre teen/ teenagers who were roaming the halls the entire weekend in packs of 5-10 kids. I have no idea who was supposed to be supervising them. I am aware that they are kids and they are just trying to have fun but I was trying to enjoy my weekend. Great hotel, poor experience We decided to upgrade to an ocean view room upon arrival. The room was excellent except for two issues. The heat would not turn off (even when turned off) even with multiple windows wide open the temp in the room was upwards of 75. Several attempts were made to fix it but failed. The 2nd issue was the coffee pot did not work. It was changed for us. There were no other ocean view rooms available so we declined a room change. We were offered a free breakfast for the inconvenience.
amp would never suggest anyone to book in this hotel. Not worth it.
For having such great reviews and having a beautiful location the service was far from my expectations. I visited for a relaxing girls getaway when we checked in Friday night our first room did not even lock. The door did not even fit in the door frame so we had to move rooms. The second rooms dresser did not shut and just hung open the entire time, which was located in the middle of the room. we are very famiilar with the HV but this particular weekend which was my birthday the hotel was very full and they did not have the staff to get the rooms ready...my daughter and her husband joined us and although the check in was 4 they didn't get a room until after 6...the lobby was full of people arguing as they were there for a wedding and couldn't get to their rooms to get ready. A very disappointing experience especially at this hotel which we love to patronize in the summer.
Rooms not ready Pros: Lovely spacious rooms Even with a reservation and check-in at 4:00 we were not able to get into our room until 8:00 pm. They said staff had quit that morning but the hotel could not have been full since it is November and I didn't see any senior staff hustling to help with the rooms. Once we got into our room, everything was fine, but for what we were charged, we should not have sat in the lobby for 4 hours. Unacceptable!
Continental breakfeast scam. Was told at check in, that complimentary Starbucks breakfeast was available in the morning. Went to breakfeast at 8a. No hostess at the check in so sat ourselves and assumed this was the continental breakfeast. All we had was the usual continental affair, rolls fruit coffee and juice. Moldy bathroom/run down rooms The room is def not worth the price but the view is beautiful. Bathroom was tiny, moldy and just run down.
Not worth it. Pros: location Cons: Remodel and clean Our room was in one of the "cottages" in the hotel compound, which includes the old hotel, newer "motel/hotel" sections and 4 "cottages" that look like restored older homes. The "cottage" we were in felt like an aging, has-been hotel room of an era long gone. The furniture was beaten up, carpet worn and terribly stained.
