Get directionsOur cat seemed to be lethargic and seemed to be having littlerbox problems. We took him to our regular vet. They said he had a urinary blockage and would need emergency treatment that they couldn't do. They recommended that we take him to Long Island Veterinary Specialists. They estimated treatment would be about $1500 which we thought was a lot but we were willing to pay. When we got to Long Island Veterinary Specialists they gave us a price that was almost double that. We felt we had no choice except to pay it or eutha... read more
Value It took 3 hours on a Sunday, waiting anxiously in our car while they had our newborn 9 week puppy. The vet finally called us twice to ask the same information now 3x, same story, we think she had an adverse reaction to the heartgard medication (convulsing, wobbly, vomiting, whimpering..) no diagnosis, just a recommendation to take blood work for $250, x-rays, fliluids and keep her overnight. This place is a racket and so unprofessional. Never once called us to reassure that her vitals were ok. We finally just said giv... read more

We very much respect your feedback, Paige, and we thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We truly hope your puppy is on the mend. We understand that speaking with a doctor you've never met before over the phone is not the same as meeting with them personally, yet due to the current coronavirus pandemic we are doing everything we can to protect our staff and the community while providing care to animals. Please know that we are all dedicated to providing the best care possible and regret that we did not li... read more
I had a scary episode of apparent paralysis in my miniature poodle in early morning hours and my veterinary office listed this place as an emergency option after or before hours. I drove from Williston Park to Plainview with a dog who was shaking in pain. I was the only car in the lot. I called as instructed, was told someone would be out to get my dog and no one came. I got a call from the office as if we hadn't already arranged this, and again no one came out to get my dog. We are home now waiting for a regular vet's ... read more
Business response:
Thank you for providing us with your recent experience at Long Island Veterinary Specialists, Jeanne. Hearing about your experience was disheartening to us. We are sorry that we failed to be more attentive during this scary episode. Due to the coronavirus pandemic we have been providing curbside appointments 24/7 in an effort to safely and responsibly provide care to the animal community. At times, this new way of seeing patients can present communication miscues. We hope your dog received the care it required and is fee... read more
Don't take your animals to Long Island veterinarian specialist in Plainview. They basically killed our dog. All they care about is money. Our poor baby is not doing well, and the lab threw out his blood work. This blood work was the only test to find out what's wrong with him. Now we can't get more blood work since he's on medication.
In my 24 years of walking this earth I have never encountered a service or product terrible enough to spend my short life writing a review about it.......until now. We were referred to Long Island Veterinary Specialists by our regular vet after our Siberian husky developed a limp after a failed jump over her crate. Upon arrival to their facility we were advised that it might be a fracture and that an x-ray was the best possible course of action. We were then told that there would be extra charges because the dog would need a... read more
Brought my dog for eye surgery, I paid up front then received additional bill for $307. When I brought my dog back 4 weeks later because then eye was worse then when I started I was then charged for office visit I signed credit card for amount of visit and they fraudulently changed amount!!! Horrific treatment. Then told my dog needs additional surgery for another $1800. Last place I would ever go back to
Let me start off with saying, DON'T BRING YOUR PET HERE!!! My husband and I had brought in our 15 year old Shelty last Sunday, knowing it was time to put him down. (For the past 4 days prior he was barely eating, crying in pain and could barley walk). To make a really long story short, they did a five minute examination, of course not in front of you. Determined his vitals were good and we were as pet owners told we were rushing to put him down by the Doctor. Apparently the doctor didn't see any of the problems we were expla... read more
My cat was admitted to LIVS hospital for one night. When I brought her home the next day she was limping very badly. There was no mention she injured her leg while under LIVS care. I called and spoke with the doctor, who was very callous in her response to my cat's injury. They did not treat her injury, nor did they tell me she was injured. It is now 9-months later and my cat is lame. I wrote Dr. Marino a letter regarding, and never received a response. I would never trust LIVS with the care of any animal.
I wished I would have read the reviews before I came here. The outside appears beautiful, but looks can always be deceiving. I feel like the "doctors" were not being transparent. They repeated the same information my primary vet had informed me. At 5:30pm, "after hours" I spent 9 hours in that office: between waiting to be seen, having x rays, and blood work done. I had to see an ER doctor, when my initial reason for coming in was for a surgery consultation and I wasn't informed of that only until AFTER the ER visit, and hav... read more
