I had a baby in Dec 2020 so between healing, caring for a baby, and dealing with a pandemic I've been putting off going back to the gym. I tried to find time to go to the gym when someone could watch my daughter at home but it just wasn't happening. I was nervous about dropping my baby off at just any daycare so I was hesitant. I was in the Scottsdale and Shea location on 6/30 as a guest on my boyfriends membership. When I arrived on 6/30 the daycare attendant was covering the front desk and informed me she did not know what she had to do to complete the guest pass. She had me fill out a form and took a copy of my drivers license to get me going for a guest pass. There was no follow up on a guest pass after my gym visit that day, instead I received a voicemail urging me to sign up for a membership the same day as my first visit. BE WARNED! So here's an update! Where to begin, have tried to cancel this stupid membership so many times. Only to receive several texts from management (each month), always playing coy and innocent, but never apologetic. I cancelled this membership in December, 2020, in person at the Ice Den location. I visited their gym prior to their shut down, and advised them that I was canceling. I didn't live in Scottsdale, was there for a work assignment. Worked with Dylan K. He was AMAZING! He did everything he said he would do and more. From fitness, nutrition and just being a good guy. If there we 100,000 personal trainers like Dylan K. in this country we wouldn't need healthcare. I can see the vein in my arm. I haven't had that since college. It's problematic when you come into a community, make a gym a quasi-day care so that you have the ability to milk more people out of their money, and then revert to corporate when you hit membership fees. Let me tell you, GREAT business model! I signed-up for month-to-month specifically to avoid the hassle of membership tiedowns only to find out that you still end-up being charged when you ask to put your membership on hold without a courtesy call to see if you want to continue. Did anybody else try to cancel but MountainSide wouldn't let you? WARNING- READ THE FINE PRINT. I tried to cancel my month-to-month membership LAST month and they still charged my card THIS month. When I told them that I cancelled they told me if I still needed to update my card on file for the payment for this new month. Did I do something wrong? Nope, it's just their cancellation policy has to be a certified letter if you are out of town. I wish I would've known that when I signed up... probably in some fine print somewh... read more
