I have been taking my pets to River Forest Animal Hospital for over a decade and I have thought long and hard about writing this review, as I am loyal to the vet and the staff who have worked there over the years. However, over the past few years, I have watched numerous vets come and go, primarily female. The only vet who has remained, is Dr. Wayne Juhnke (who is wonderful.) Normally they have been better but the last 2 times I went they forgot to charge me and I had to call later and then the next visit they gave my puppy the wrong shot!!! One more mistake and I'm moving all my animals to another vet. Attention to detail needs to improve

I have waited to post a review for something that happened in February at River Forest Animal Hospital. I didn't want to respond just out of anger.But even though I have waited my anger has not dissipated. I brought my 4 year old miniature dachshund Oliver in for his annual teeth cleaning, his third in 4 years at this facility. They have a lengthy consent form that mentions the possibility of extractions but doesn't mention the fact that you will not be contacted prior to it being done. Very poor communication with front desk, I made an appointment for a bath for my dog and was advised his shot were all up to date. A half an hour after dropping my dog off, the tech called me and advised my dog needed additional shots for "boarding " as well as a fee to check his vitals. More than I planned to pay for a bath. Went back and picked him up. Wasted half day off of work.

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE! Avoid this place at ALL costs unless you want to pay double what every other vet charges. If your dog is sick and you a prescription is provided and you need a follow-up visit, you'll have to pay twice! Additionally, Dr. Nass has the ABSOLUTE worst bedside manner ever. She was about 25 minutes late into the room because of an emergency, but came in like I did something wrong. No apology, just attitude. In my opinion this place has horrible communication and organization than the usual pet veteran facility. I recommend trying a different facility if you want your time respected and your pet to receive proper care. My first visit I had to wait 10 minutes after a scheduled appointment May 5, 2023. On my way to the groomer, I stopped to buy the Equishield CK shampoo for my dog. They asked for $56.34 for the 16oz bottle!!!! The exact same shampoo they have on their online store for $24.95 (see attached screenshot). When I asked the receptionist if there is a mistake and why the price difference, they responded that the price is correct and that the online store has better prices. That is an 110% markup from their online price!
Appointments are not respected. Front desk is not organized. They set you up for an appointment and then don't respect their own schedule. Had a 10:30 am appointment for my cat, on a working day. Got there 2 minutes prior to our scheduled appointment. Informed the front desk of our arrival. Was asked to wait. Waited for 15 minutes. They forgot about us. Horrible experience! I took my dog for teeth cleaning. I had a couple of doctors checked on her and did blood work prior to the cleaning. All said she was perfectly healthy. But on that day, she stoped breathing during the procedure. She was given anesthesia in the beginning of the procedure but died during the procedure. To this day I still have a hard time to believe how a normal, simple teeth cleaning can go wrong and causing her death!
