It took 3 months for me to get today's appointment at California Skin Institute in Monterey at Ryan Ranch. After reading CSI's horrible Yelp reviews, I seriously considered canceling the appointment. Fortunately, my skin condition is prolonged, bothersome, and on my face. So, I decided to keep the appointment. I'm very happy I did! The front desk ladies were courteous and welcoming. Few things that might save you the trip. 1) At the time of appointment the guy that goes by Henry has a very aggressive, no time to hear your concerns, attitude!! Gave me about 3 minutes to explain myself. He seemed to know what what going on but didnt give me time to further explain my symptoms and other concerns. 2) After the dismaying appointment, I am YET to be able to pick up my prescription. My first visit to this office with a new Dr. on staff. From 4 feet away, this woman only glanced at the conditions I came in for. And don't tell me the distancing was due to Covid. This Dr. had a responsibility to examine me. She had the personality and professionalism of a dead fish. It was like pulling teeth to get ANY information out of her. I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly I was processed as a new patient. I was scheduled for 11:30 am appointment, and I was finished by 11:37. They sent me a survey at that time. I felt a little rushed, I didn't even have time to fill out my paperwork before seeing the doctor. The appointment was over very fast and that would be the only complaint I have, there was very little time to discuss my issues.

If you are asked to address your concerns with DeDe who is regional manager, you are better off not addressing them. She is not very helpful and highly likely your concern will not be resolved.

I have called this practice several times and my doctor send them a referral . They have not responded to my calls. I am left hanging. The same thing happened when I called dr Rheim with a referral from my GP. What gives?

This is my first and last visit to California Skin Institute. I saw Dr. Weaver for two spots I have on my face that need to be removed. He mentioned possible basal cancer and asked the assistant for a referral for a good surgeon. She agreed to check with the MOHS surgeon she had in mind and get back to me. Six weeks later and multiple voicemails to the practice and I have yet to hear from anyone. You would think with a possible cancer diagnosis that someone would make an effort to refer me to have this removed, but evidently... read more

To start, I am so so sad that Dr Bolante is leaving the practice. She was a gift that helped me through accutane and dermatitis for two years. Attentive, kind, always made me feel like my concerns were valid. Dr Henry however, I could not recommend to anyone. He "doesn't look at pictures", so if you've resolved your issue by the time your appointment rolls around in a month or so you're entirely out of luck on getting it treated. I have been trying to get a dermatology appointment for close to a year for a simple rash on my leg that can be painful when irritated by chemicals such as chlorine, and between insurance issues, i.e. local dermatologist not accepting my insurance, referral not lasting long enough for appointment availability (months out!), and a host of other issues.
