Let me begin with the positive...the views are amazing! Ok, now that's where the positive ends. My family (party of 5) came here while on vacation to celebrate my mothers as well as my daughters birthday. We were seated inside by a big window which worked out perfectly because the fire works display was right outside this window (hence the positive view comment). the staff recognized our Anniversary and served us champagne, bonus! Thank you. the service was slow, we almost finished 2 bottles of wine before our food arrived. We had to remind the server we were still waiting on our food. When the food arrived, the Pork Chop was so dry it was difficult to chew. We arrived a bit after 7pm, and we were the last 4 people in the dining room after 9pm.
We have eaten here many times before. This was by far the worst service we have received and it started with a hostess who was less than accommodating with our displeasure with our table location. None of the steaks were prepared to our request, all were overdone. They were busy as it is the tourist season, but that in no excuse for the slow service and poor quality of food. We were very disappointed as we had friends in from out of town and had told them how good Ela's was.
Second time we've eaten here. Hush puppies are hard and greasy. Seafood is always over cooked and dry. Beet appetizer was tasteless. Grits in shrimp and grits were cement like. Veggies were hard and undercooked. The views are spectacular... go for cocktails but skip the food!
Very disappointing meal. The calamari was rubbery with no flavor and the grouper smelled and tasted so fishy that I couldn't eat it. The vegetable side was the best part of the meal, beautifully presented and perfectly cooked. The flounder my mom had, on the other hand, was great! The view is lovely and the restaurant is also very nice. Would go for a drink again but would not eat
Thought it would be a great dinner spot over looking the water... but Wow...not what I expected at all. Spent over $250 for a family of 4 to celebrate my daughters 19th b-day. Wait staff was good...but when we asked that a medium rare steak (which was over cooked and served cold) be 'heated'. They took it to the kitchen...then the manager reported back that the chef stated it was prepared medium rare as ordered. Elas has long been a favorite since they opened. We typically come to Hilton Head 4 or more times a year. Typically Ela's is first on our list for a nice dinner. Our entrees were both overcooked, making for dry and rubbery snapper and flounder, resectively.
Terrible food and service!
Server was awesome however the food was terrible. I should never have to put A1 sauce on a $50 steak! We won't go back and it's unfortunate because it is a great location and the staff was super friendly.
