I do not normally leave reviews; however, I felt compelled to do so for Southland Sod Farms, specifically Renato. My property was entirely re-landscaped in January, 2025. I chose Marathon II as my lawn of choice. Approximately two (2) months after installation, there were various brown dead spots. At the time, I asked my gardener, who was also the installer of the sod, about the dying grass. We contacted Southland Sod Farms for advice about our sod which was full of brown spots and lots of dead and missing patches. Mobile representative, Renato de Sousa, came to our home that very day. Renato is incredibly professional, knowledgeable, patient, and helpful. The local Southland representative John Domenici is outstanding. Any company would benefit from an experienced, highly knowledgeable, and responsive representative like him. My experience with Southland Sod, and specifically with Renato de Souza, has been beyond extraordinary, and I would highly and enthusiastically recommend that anyone in Southern CA who is putting down sod go directly to Renato. I had Marathon 1 lite sod installed in my back yard and it looks beautiful. Unfortunately my landscaper inadvertently had a few spots that turned brown due to fertilizer burns. I reached out to my region Marathon representative, Renato De Sousa, and I explained what had happened. I was very happy with the service provided by Southland Sod Farms. Renato was particularly helpful. The sod was delivered promptly as scheduled. Renato stopped by to give recommendations as my team was placing the sod over the subterranean irrigation. He checked multiple times ensuring that the grass was taking root as well as advising me on watering schedule adjustments. Southland Sod has a special power! No not just the great sod, but they have Mr Renato De Sousa. He is a technical sod / grass specialist. He came out to home to settle us in with our new lawn of Green Wave / Red Fescue. John Donenici paid me a house visit to look at my three month old new saint augustine sod. Several brown spots were showing up. John used a soil probe to determine my sprinklers coverage was uneven. He gave me several custom water measuring cups to place all around sod area and instructed me to make sure lawn was receiving 1.5 inches per week.
