Stone Creek-Zionsville is consistent. Consistently good decor, good beer selections, good middle-of-the-road menu. But it's also consistently marginal in its service. They always seem to make some kind of mistake - a forgotten salad, absent wait staff, cold entrees, incorrect modifications (like hold the tomatoes), etc. It really speaks to restaurant management, and the need for a change as the Zionsville/West Carmel corridor is getting much more competitive.
We went here for New Year's Eve. Even though we had reservations early in the evening, we were seated in the bar area. The noise level was loud and there were many barflys hanging out. Very disappointed. The food was adaquate. The smothered chicken was very dry and tough, like it had been microwaved too long. The fish tacos had very little flavor. Will not return.
They seemed overwhelmed when they started to get busy. No organization.
Great seating and feeling at this place. The Blackened Mahi and baked potato were great. The steak was no better than an inexpensive Marsh steak and the Ahi Tuna appetizer was served at an improper temperature for 'seared'. Wine was obviously not stored properly as two dry corks were encountered. The waitress did her best to overcome the wine issue as well as the appetizer not showing up when it should have. She was very pleasant and attentive. I might give it another try - we'll see.
The food was great however the service was not as good. The waiter seemed uninterested in serving our group. We were pushing time because he was taking so long and he just sat our bills on a different table rather than passing them out to us! He was very slow!!!
We have been customers of SCZ since opening and we loved it but the last 3 times ( last night's included), the experience has been unacceptable. First, we were seated in a table at the bar and the noise was loud and it was REALLY dark, to the point that you could not read the menu. It took 15 min for the waiter to talk to us. When we try to order our drinks and dinner together he would not take the order because "he had to bring drinks first". We both had salads and I also ordered salmon. Food was very good, server was poor
We celebrated my husbands birthday and he really enjoyed his meal. I am more of an ambiance person and we were seated too close to the noisy kitchen. Also the serving was very small for the price.
Despite the reservation, we had to wait for 30 minutes for our table. Our food was terrible. Take this off the list of places to go! In their attempt to appeal to the gluten free crowd, they have sacrificed flavor and quality. By far the worst fish tacos in the indy area. The scallops were tasteless and the BBQ sauce on the ribs tasted like fish.
