The carpets in the locker room stinks. just plain gross.
This location doesn't even deserve one star. I have been going to these gyms since 2009, mainly their Fairfield location which is great. The Greenwich location isn't great and even worse their staff is horrendous. They are rude and at any point when help is needed regarding a question or signing up for a class, they will sooner roll their eyes at you. ****BEWARE OF RECURRING FEES AND CANCELLATION PIKICY ****** My kids and I joined as a family but rarely got the chance to go. Essentially we "donated" a years fees to the place. We told the manager we wanted to cancel and even sent emails to the gym. After a month or so I began receiving multiple calls from a debt collection agency ( Swift Debt Collection)They were the rudest, nastiest SOB's I have ever encountered. The facility is nice, bathrooms are clean, equipment is pretty good. So why two stars? -it's obnoxiously busy at all hours of the day. -you can't buy a 1 day pass without feeling like the sales team is breathing down your neck. I get it- you need sales, but seriously, it's a bit much. Leave someone alone, let them workout, and decide for themselves what the club is worth. -the staff is hit or miss. Some are very friendly, others are arrogant.
I've been a member of this club for quite a few years now, and have been generally pleased with the facility. I have noticed disturbing signs recently of lnattention to clients safety and needs. Today I lost another coat to theft in the locker room. The temperature outside was below freezing and management had no suggestions or remedies. There apparently are no cameras at the exits that would assist staff in helping identify thieves and no indication that management cares. Does Edge Fitness care about client security?
Pros - the price is competitive. They have bumper plates and a prowler* (a weighted sled that you push). Cons - the space can't accommodate the number of members, often even at off peak times. Sure you can find a treadmill or an elliptical but if you are there for the squat racks or lifting platform you will generally have to wait. The gym has quite a few members that are serious about their training and spend a lot of time with the serious equipment, i.e. the power racks. This relates to the gym in Greenwich. Great place and great trainers. My issue is that they automatically charge my credit card $1600 to renew the training sessions about 6 weeks in advance. they do this every year and it pisses me off every year. This year, I decided to talk to the mgr about it, and after about 3 weeks of trying to reach him, he called me back and said their policy was to not refund anything for any reason. I used to go to the Trumbull and Fairfield edge locations - loved them!!!! Then I moved and had to start going to this location. I have had a terrible experience before and today I decided to give it a second try. One, you have to pay more because it is a smaller location (makes complete sense right?). Two, the turf area is smaller than my studio apartment (that is saying a lot). Three, yes they have wifi, but no it does not work well. I wouldn't recommend this gym to anyone, they seem to think its the best Edge because it was the original but that's far from the truth. I wouldn't doubt the newer locations are much better and bigger, but this basement of fitness club is awful. The reason for 1 star is because it gets the job done and the employees are alright. My problem is with how crowded it gets and how they are encouraging more people sign up when the gym can't fit anyone else during peak hours and is tight during regular ones.
