Get directionsThis review is for Dr. B, the oral surgeon at the VRC center. I took my dog in because she had a broken top canine tooth. It was not an emergency because my dog was not swollen or suffering so I waited a week for an appointment. I was told the consultation would be $130 and any surgery could be done the same day as the consultation appointment so I should not feed my dog breakfast that morning. When I got to the appointment the front desk receptionists were very nice and the nurse that took my dog back was very friendly. Dr.... read more
I have brought my cats here for many years when they needed specialty tests or emergency care that my regular vet could not provide. I have always found the doctors and staff to be excellent about explaining diagnoses and procedures. The costs that some people complain about are reasonable given the complex nature of the problems this place handles.
My French Bulldog and I were referred to Mid-Atlantic Veterinary Center because my vet found that he had a pretty bad case of airway disease. Many brachycephalic (short snooted) dogs can have this problem. Dr. Sadanaga came highly recommended for this surgery. I was scared to death to take him there but felt that it would lengthen his life. I am pleased to say the surgery went very well. My pup had some trouble keeping the meds down, but after 4 days, he was feeling better. I took him back for a 2 wk checkup and Dr. Sa... read more
In 2010 my dog was diagnosed by her primary care vet with a sarcoma on her rib cage and it was suggested that my 8 year old Boxer be euthanized. I could not except it, so I took her to see Dr. Sadanaga at VRC and I am so happy I did. He was able to safely remove the tumor and give her 3 more years to live. In 2011 my Boxer was attacked by a neighborhood cat and had a lacerated cornea, Dr. Beale (the opthamologist at VRC) fixed her up in no time. Unfortunately her cancer came back and we didn't catch it in time, but Dr. Sadan... read more
I have had multiple occassions to visit VRC. We have been seen by the emergency staff when one of our dogs had an abcess erupt on her back leg. She was seen promptly, her leg was attended to via surgery and healed quickly. We have seen Dr. Blazejewski for a cancerous tumor on another of our dogs. It was on his tongue and in a difficult location. He was very thorough and took the time to explain what he was going to do. He even called me durring the surgery to keep me posted. He was great and I would not hesitate to c... read more
This place is awesome. They genuinely care and are concerned about you and your animal. Long sad story cut very short - we have a dog with a surgery, done by someone else, that went completely wrong and ended up they wanted to take her leg. These folks saved her leg, was understanding and compassionate. They didn't make the mistake but felt so bad for all of us - that they went way above and beyond and did not have to do the lengths that they did for us. This place was highly recommended by friends that had animals with ... read more
My dog was admitted to another vet hospital and he needed to see a radiologist for a liver/abdominal/pancreatic/gallbladder ultrasound. I called on Tuesday and he was given an appt the next day with Dr. Shelling. When I arrived, the front desk informed me that there was an emergency so they were running about 30-40 minutes behind schedule. I didn't have a problem, as it is a hospital and cases need to be triaged appropriately. I did appreciate the heads up, though. Dr. Shelling spoke to me before the ultrasound (to obtain ... read more
I am sorry for all of the people who had bad experiences at VRC. For many, our pets mean the world to us and with that comes the great responsibility of having to manage their health care, which is never cheap and is often very complicated. I have a diabetic who has had many other health issues for which I've taken her to VRC. The bills add up, a lot, but the specialists there are wonderful and the staff has always been friendly, helpful and sensitive to our needs. Granted, they are not always perfect. I have had to remind ... read more
Andy plans to see Dr. Blazejewski next week and we are so excited! This doctor has been doing dentistry and oral surgery for small pets and exotic animals for 25 years. He may be pricey, but I know its worth it! Andy is a tough guy to handle, despite only weight 7 lbs. so I'm going to the best for his teeth cleaning.
