In brief, Dr. Charles Berk, his associates and the staff at the West Village Veterinarian Hospital are absolutely the best! I have lived in NYC for 6 years and have seen several vets for preventive, maintenance, and emergency care. Sure, there are many good vets who can provide the basic standard of care, but if your four-legged baby has any complicated issues, requires surgery, or you just want a second opinion, run, don't walk, to the offices of Dr. Charles Berk. I would trust him with my own life! The quality of care, ... read more
With so many vets in the city, it's tough to find one that you can trust. I've been bringing my Black Lab 'Tank' and my Frenchie 'Squint' here for years. Their new facility is gorgeous. It comforts me to know that my pets are being treated by knowledgeable and caring doctors. I can't say enough about the support staff as well. They all seem so genuine and care so much for the animals. I wouldn't trust my pet care to any other hospital.
Went in at 7:30 pm (they close at 8) because our dog was having difficulty breathing and retching. Even though they advertise as 'no appointment' necessary and 'walk in', the receptionist told us the vet was on her last appointment and everyone was getting ready to leave. She wouldn't even let us speak to the vet - just told us if he was having difficulty breathing, we should take him to a 'real' emergency hospital. Completely useless. She obviously couldn't be bothered and just wanted to close up shop and go home. If this i... read more
Up till now I've had nothing but positive things to say but not anymore! I have an elderly cat who has basically one tooth left that's loose, I had blood work done which came back mainly normal if I was to go ahead with having him put under to remove, then I get a quote just under 1,900 to remove a tooth and I'm just appalled, there's things estimated that aren't needed he doesn't need laser therapy etc it's just all expensive fluff, I've never felt so hustled at a vets before but this time my experience was horrible, are th... read more
I am trying to warn others that money - above care - is your priority. As evidenced by the uncaring/hurtful process my poor dog had to go through. There is nothing to handle "privately" or "professionally" any more, you had your chance there and then and you blew it. You continue to insist that your processes have not changed and that somehow this makes it ok that my dog would wait for 2 hours scared as he is old and blind and in poor health. No, It is not ok now, it was not ok then. Or that it makes it ok for you to upfro... read more

Responded on 7/26: We wanted to address this privately in a professional manner, however this response has forced us to address this publicly. Yes, this was your pet’s first time at our West Village location. Dr. McLaughlin from our Battery Park location personally booked for your pet’s echocardiogram and went over the drop off process. Our recorded phone logs have our staff also informing you of the process when they called to confirm. We have your pet on file to have had an echocardiogram performed 5 other times at our Tr... read more
Customer care. What your receptionist/phone answerer should have been trained to do, was get a nurse or vet to take the call. THAT IS THE APPROPRIATE PROTOCOL. My cat would have DIED before I could get her to a hospital in NYC traffic. My own common sense told me that. (And please do not tell me what's legal. Just don't go there.) My diabetic cat was having a classic hypoglycemic event, research revealed. A nurse or vet could've quickly told me what internet GOOGLE vet sites told me, which was to rub syrup or honey on the ... read more
Business response:
Deirdre, we understand how frustrating it must when your pet is in distress. Listening to the recorded call, you had expressed that your pet was not moving and was having a diabetic emergency. Based on this, our receptionist referred you to the closest emergency hospital. As she is not a licensed veterinary professional, she is unable to legally provide you with the medical advice that you were seeking. She did also inquire with a licensed professional, to determine if anything could be done to help and based on the informat... read more
Vet - I've had a great experience with the Vet and overall staff is very nice/helpful. I would recommend the Vet here and his primary vet at Tribeca Soho Animal Hospital. BE WARNED - there is a staff member who shaves the dogs before ultrasounds or surgeries named Gracie. My 11.5lb puppy went in for an ultrasound due to digestive problems and was returned to me with multiple cuts and razor burn from being shaved carelessly by this woman. Please see images below. She even cut his private area. Ask that your pet is not seen ... read more

Vanessa, we greatly appreciate you taking the time to speak with us and for allowing us to address your concerns. We are sorry that this happened and understand your frustration. We have already discussed how we will help to provide any care needed for this situation until this is resolved. Please know that this was not intentional in any way. We have handled this with our staff member and are also determining if any issues with equipment to prevent this from occurring again.
I don't know what happened in the last month, but they no longer communicate with the client. My vet was let go without notice, and the practice had no plan in place for who would take over his clients. They had the audacity to blame him for their lack of communication! This is on top of the 5 hour ultrasound visit that I had the last visit. No one mentioned there was a window of time the tech would come in until an hour after I dropped off my cat. I left her at 1230 and she wasn't released to me until 6pm (which I still had... read more

Hi Aleks K, We are sorry that you were not informed of Dr. Rivera departing our practice. He received the opportunity to concentrate specifically with exotic animals and could not turn it down as this is his passion. Normally, any vets departing, do inform their regular clients of their departure and am sorry that this did not happen. Due to this, we will also be sending out a message to also inform any clients that saw him. We understand that it is frustrating when there is a wait. To help provide more detail, our bo... read more
I took my ailing hamster here and the doctor did an awful awful job. Misdiagnosed her and didn't even do what he said he would. Now she is near death and they suggested we go to an ER vet. Don't come here!!
