American Home Shield is a solid waste of money. I have two experiences with them, both horrible. First: a blockage. I pay 75$ for the contractor to come and diagnose the issue. They say they need to further inspect some less accessible pipe and that is going to require AHS approval. They would get back to me. I call AHS to check on the status of the request, they say they never received a detailed report from the contractor, so the problem cannot be fixed. I call again after one week, they say the same. Same thing every week... read more

I have had service with AHS for the past 5 years and the experience has been very frustrating- the contracts they signed with companies are either incompetent or trying to cheat the AHS customers by giving wrong diagnostics- I have read from reviews of most the companies that AHS hired and send to my home have very bad rating and reviews are bad especially if hired by AHS- This company rating by BBB should be revisited and rate accordingly for customers so we can make a educated decision when looking for a Home warranty.

Business response:

Theresa, My name is Kim and I am with AHS' social media department. We respond and follow up with customers that post online reviews on various sites in an effort to resolve customer complaints. If you would like assistance, please provide your covered property address or your contract number and I will follow up with you in the order in which your information is received. I hope to connect with you soon.

I have a valid home warranty. Traveling internationally to come home to a broken furnace and 40 degrees in my home. When I called they opened a claim, but the service agent was too busy to come until the following week. They said unless its an emergency, they would not do a after-hours service. I called AMS and they said unless it was in the 20s its not an emergency. Now it was in the 30s. I called a new service agency and paid out of pocket. I called back to get reimbursed, and they refused. This is a scam!!!!!!!

Business response:

Hi Aron, I hate to hear about the delay in service that has been experienced with the furnace repairs. I would be glad to speak with you and reach a resolution.

That's what I tell the last time I take the survey. Before the service only takes about 2 to 4 days the equipment is fixed then the last few years it takes about almost 2 weeks to fixed. Thats what I experience to the American Home Shield now.

Business response:

Hi Bon, Your feedback is more than appreciated and we hope you continue to enjoy your AHS home warranty and the coverage we provide!

Assured multiple times from home shield and realtor that yes they would most definitely cover and repair or replace any appliance necessary. 700 for a year (i was told a ‘special time offer’) and $100 for each call out for service ($300 so far). So far 1000 dollars shelled out. What i had repaired? A cheap thermostat and a wax ring for the toilet. Def nowhere near 1000 worth of service or work. Now for third visit my hvac is out. Was assured once again before purchasing by hime shield and relator that yes they covered and wo... read more

Our air conditioner went out on Sept. 6. It's now November 1, and it's still not fixed. The vendor AHS selected has been nearly impossible to contact. When we contacted AHS to escalate the issue, the vendor contacted us to make an appointment, then did not show up. When we did finally get through, we were told that they had received the wrong part. During all of this, AHS did relatively little to assist us. Numerous times, we asked to speak to a supervisor or to further escalate the issue, only to be told that was not possib... read more

Off shore call center, uncovered (and unnecessary) charges, over estimating Freon needs, and slow to respond. This company has been a huge disappointment and I would not recommend them to anyone. It’s Louisiana, it’s hot and they are holding all the cards. I am extremely disappointed and I wish that I had never purchased a plan from them.

Business response:

I ordinarily do not buy insurance because I understand that insurance companies win ONLY if I lose, so they are predisposed to find ways to make me lose. But when I bought a new house, the previous owner purchased an AHS policy on my behalf. My experience with AHS started out reasonably well. They arranged to have a decent plumber come out and fix a few low-cost leaky faucets on various occasions, relatively quickly, with no hitches. Then my central heating system malfunctioned. On 3/5/2020 I put in a service request. An HVA... read more

We have had a very difficult time with American Home Shield. Early morning 5/7/2020, our hot water heater broke and dumped gallons of water into our finished basement, soaking carpets. The same day, we called American Home Shield, with whom we have had insurance for over a year, and they told us a leaking and broken hot water heater is NOT an urgent issue and therefore could NOT be considered a priority. Long (very long!) story short, we were told we’d have to wait. It would likely be Monday 5/11/2020 before we could be seen... read more
