I should have been a perfect candidate for Better.com. My FICO score is above 800. I have a considerable amount of cash and securities in the bank and have been employed by the same company for over 18 years with an increase in income year over year and minimal expenses. I was trying to refinance my home with a reasonably small outstanding mortgage of 335K. Their site looked legit. I've waited a while to leave my review, and I'll try to keep it concise. I shopped around for refinance offers and Better.com was significantly better overall than #2. I've taken out several mortgages, even more refinances, and have closed remotely from another state even before the online options were available so I felt like this would be a breeze. We had a horrible experience with this company. They initially gave us a closing date, which we and the sellers planned EVERYTHING around, then due to their screw up (they gave us an appraisal waiver, and then some time later said we DID need one, which wasn't scheduled properly), we didn't close on time. There was a whirlwind of repercussions. We spent hours on the phone and countless e-mails trying to get them back on track to no avail. Better.com had the best offer and i was a little nervous at first doing this online. However, they use a portal that is very well organized, the steps are explained clearly and descriptions of what documents are needed are provided. It's easy to make an appointment to speak with an agent, and they are punctual when they call. I didn't have a single problem working with Better.com. My closing was extremely easy as well. Great closing speed of 4-6 weeks All steps closed as promised Helpful closing agents and all other staff members Rates are not competitive but they match plus $100 over the match price. If they would have offered competitive rates too they will be shaking the mortgage industry and my ratings will be 5 star. Also appraisal requirement was waived by the other lender but they needed it and both use ****** *** system to check for this requirement. If they can be more competitive on this part it will save $550 for the customer

Their CA office is full of incompetence. Worked two mortgages in parallel, the one handled by home advisor S A was an absolute disaster. No responsiveness from them or their manager, just dropped ball left and right and making excuses for their lack of service. Offers 200 bucks as a consolation once I put back, absolutely insulting. New York office was easier to deal with, good people there. If you're assigned someone from CA beware.
