I have loved Cafe Fiorello ever since I stumbled in after the opera on a snowy night when cabs were scarce. My family has many happy memories here. This time was different. The service was rushed, unprofessional, inattentive. The prices were sky high, much higher that the food and setting warrant. I hope this was a one time experience. Sadly, I'll think long and hard before going back.
This was once my favorite spot to go after the opera, but not after this experience. We were seated at a small table and then two large parties were seated on each side of us...the waiter moved their tables so they were literally touching ours...absolutely no opportunity for conversation. We then ordered our meal which was not served for almost an hour. During that wait we had to specially request bread...then ask separately for the olive oil for the bread. When the meal was finally served the calamari was tough, the shrimp ... read more
The portions are small. The noise level high. Tables check to jowl!
The first time we were there, we really liked it. This time not so much. They have gluten free pasta so that was a plus, but I asked if the meatballs were gluten free and was told yes. The plate was put down in front of me and then I was told that they were not gluten free and the plate was removed. Someone else at our table ordered the meatball appetizer as their meal. All of the other meals were served and then they were told that they were out of meatballs. It was 5:15 pm. Ten minutes later, they brought out more meatball... read more
they lost our reservation twice. Heard great things but were disappointed with bland food. Expensive. Not worth it.
What happened is Smiths, right next door. I live a block away and fiorello used to be packed all the time. Smith opened next door and took all customers under 50 years old away. Its a very cool and fun restaurant while fiorello is just tired. I walked in last week after going into smiths, which was a half hour wait, and Fiorello was empty. I mean other than staff, nobody was in the restaurant, and next door was a half hour wait. We went in and noticed there prices were way up, as I used to frequent this restaurant often. Mos... read more
This restaurant used to be wonderful and we looked forward to it. As the prices ascended and the portions shrunk we stuck with it. The food, especially the antipasto, pizzettas, and veal chop were all terrific; and it was worth going to despite being unbelievably crowded and noisy pre-concert and opera. The meal we had two nights ago was poor. The so-called sausage with peppers, an appetizer, has a "sausage" that doesn't even qualify as a bad meatball. When we questioned it, our waiter, whose attention was barely there, toss... read more
The food just isn't what it used to be. The sausage and peppers has really changed. Instead of chunks of Italian link sausage with visible strips of peppers they serve tough patties with itty bitty tiny pieces of pepper in the sauce. My favorite carmelized fennel has also undergone big changes. Instead of well cooked to soft sweet golden perfection, it is now hard and unappetizing. Have they changed owners? Chefs? It used to be my favorite place. Now it is unsatisfactory.
Having had dinner here many times, we tried it for an early lunch - and it did not go well. Breads, drinks and salad were on par - but main courses were challenging. Had to send back one of the two entrees TWO times to no avail. We ended up leaving with only one of us eating. Sadly, it tarnished us on future visits.
