The ribollita was lukewarm and not very tasty. But the lobster and shrimp fra diavolo over pappardelle was horrible. The seafood must have been overcooked, sitting in a pot with the sauce just waiting to be reheated. And the sauce was bland and boring. It was really awful and at $38 (I think that's what it was), that just is NOT acceptable. I don't know what's happened to that kitchen, which used to be good, but they're not going to last long if the continue dish out stuff like that.
I go to Cafe Fiorello out of sentimental attachment. I started going there as a young man after/before Opera and Ballet at Lincoln Center. The ambiance has always been lovely and the service always very good (though lately a little pushy to sell drinks and higher priced items.) Unfortunately the food is not so good anymore and the price of the food is definitely NOT merited by the quality. Their "signature" pizzas are now just run of the mill and barely have any taste. They used to be these fascinating rectangular artworks t... read more
Great location across the street from Lincoln Center. Italian-inspired menu. Bustling atmosphere. But the food is sub-par (very generic) and the prices are high. That said, it's a pleasant place to go after a show...I just wish it was worth the money.
Fiorello's is a nice looking restaurant and was decorated nicely for Christmas. However, the food was very disappointing.
The service was slow again and seemed to be a piecemeal of sorts; on top of that, the pizza was soggy and the ribolitta was NOT ribollita, but instead a dull and murky vegetable soup. Will likely skip dining here next time.
The food was totally overpriced. Paying $25 for a simple pizza and $17 for a mediocre glass of wine is an example.
We had the antipasto bar for a late lunch. The eggplant parmagiana was very good, bu the spinach and the asparagus were somewhat bland.
After years of enjoying Fiorello's I encourage you to go elsewhere. I requested a booth on this site and it was confirmed; we watched in dismay when our reservation for 3 went to a party of 4, because of the chaos at the front desk. We were seated in a astonishingly noisy room with the tin ceiling. I regret that we did not leave and have a sandwich next door. Not only was the noise so loud that we all developed headaches, the food was very ordinary. The previously wonderful crisp crackers had become thick, tough inedible lea... read more
Having been to Café Fiorello many times for dinner and lunch, I was expecting the usual fine dining experience. I was terribly disappointed. Not only was the veal tasteless and skimpy (and the artichoke inedible), but the appetizer left a lot to be desired as well. It used to be that their fixed price lunch menu was a good deal, but not any more. Dessert is no longer included (although it appears to be unless you look closely at the fine print) and $4 extra for a tiny scoop of gelato is a mite excessive. In essence, I will t... read more
