I really never expected to be gouged by an Angie's list rated company. Certified Electrical Technologies must have a post hurricane price list. I called to get a quote on installation of four bathroom fans, and a portable generator transfer switch. I stated I could provide the hardware and would identify the circuits before installation. The telephone quote for a transfer switch wired into my existing panel would be $900. (Complete switch kits are $299 on Amazon). I was also told that my panel may not accept a switch and th... read more

I was told that the work initially would run $200, but that was quickly adjusted to $350 after the work was already started. I was alsotold there would be some holes that would require patching but nothing too outrageous. After the work was complete the electrician said he was done and could I pay. Needless to say the house was a mess - there was drywall dust and debris everywhere and the amount and size of holes to patch was outrageous along with overall sloppy work. I called the companyand spoke withthe manager who was ver... read more

The sheathing on the electric service cable to my house is frayed and needs to be replaced. I described the situation to the person who answered the phone, and immediately he said that everything -- cable, meter box, and electrical panel -- had to be replaced and that it would cost a whopping $2500. I asked for clarification; the problem appeared to be just the sheathing, why did everything have to be replaced? The person kind of snorted at me and said it was not possible to just replace the sheathing. He gave me his estimat... read more

I purchased a Big Deal for 2 hours of work from CET, hoping to get our exterior lights replaced. We had received as a gift a set of matching lights which were very expensive and very heavy (approx 10lbs each). While I have some experience with minor electrical (my father is a general contractor and I grew up working with him), I was concerned about getting these properly mounted and wanted to enlist a professional. In addition, these new lights were larger than the existing lights and required a larger siding mounting block,... read more

I was referred to Certified Electrical Technologies by American Home Shield. AHS called me and left a message indicating that an electrician had been contacted to perform my service. When I contacted Certified Electric I was informed that the "one" person who performed service for AHS customers was out of the office, nobody else in the company could schedule service, and this person would call back at 10 am. I returned the phone call at 10 am, and this one person was still not available. I left another message. 4 days later ... read more

We tried to set up an appointment with this company, and it started well. They asked us sensible questions and then sent us an email with appointment details. However, the appointment details were in the subject line of the email only, appended to the end, and not in the body of the email at all. I missed this, and asked for the date and time again. We got the following reply: ================================ From: Gary Epstein [mailto:Gary@certifiedelec.com] Sent: Friday, August 24, 2012 1:01 PM To: [email address removed... read more

I told them that a month was way too long and that I might need to get my money back for my coupon.

We asked Gary Epstein for an estimate. He called back very promptly, and asked for photographs of the job we wanted done and the circuit breaker. He spoke with my wife, and as she didn't know what the circuit breaker was, she just sent photographs of the job required. He sent an email reply asking for the picture of the circuit breaker. I then called him and spoke with him, and mentioned that I didn't think the circuit breaker was connected to the job involved. He lost his temper and said that he "would not be able to help u... read more
