Paul did an excellent job explaining the pluses and minuses of certain carpets. He was patient, knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with.
The quality of installation was C-. The men did a fine job of seaming the carpets and pulling it tight but they left marks on the painted baseboard where the tool they used to pull the carpet rubbed against the baseboard. (I didn't watch them work but wonder if that could have been prevented by their using a towel or rag as a backing to the tool. Perhaps, a cloth would have prevented the marring, which my husband had to fix after the men left.)
-They were very messy. It's true that they vacuumed when they finished the install but in the process of their moving furniture and putting away their tools, I found a lot of small carpet pieces around the rooms. An additional pass of the vacuum or a broom right before the men were going to exit could have handled that problem.
-Finally, when installing the carpet, they splintered the wooden transition piece between the carpet and the kitchen. I asked them what they were going to do and they volunteered to reinstall the BROKEN piece. No! That wasn't going to work for me. I phoned Paul and he said DeSitter would replace the threshold piece. A man was sent over to pick up the splintered piece. He told me he wanted to match the color of the new wooden piece they were going to install a few days later. On transition installation day, the men came 30 minutes early to install the new piece. It was nothing more than a piece RAW wood. I asked the installer why it wasn't stained. He said they couldn't make an exact color match. Come on! Raw wood? I (!) will need to put some clear varnish on this to keep it from changing color over time or getting damaged by water/dampness. Seriously?
The installers almost ruined my experience with DeSitter, from whom I purchased carpet in the past.
