I emailed this location asking for information on an apartment I was interested in. It has been almost two weeks and they have yet to respond. This is aligned with many of the other reviews which speak to the unresponsiveness of this facility. If they aren't being responsive to potential renters, then they will be even less responsive once you move in and they have your money and a signed lease.
Business response:
Dear Mary, I am sorry to hear my leasing team has not gotten back to your emails. As customer service is our first priority, I have asked my team to review every email to ensure none were accidentally overlooked. We do our best to ensure each and every prospect, resident, and guest is responded to in a timely manner. Although I understand this has left a poor first impression, we would greatly appreciate an opportunity to show you what our community and team has to offer. Please feel free to reach out to me directly if I... read more
The crime in this area has skyrocketed in the past year. It's a nice building but there have been multiple shootings (another one just last night that some people watched from their living room windows) and bullets have hit the building (bakery downstairs) in past shootings. I love the amenities and proximity to Bart but it's actually not safe. I don't understand how they are charging the kinds of rents they do when bullets can fly through your window! The pricing algorithm doesn't account for crime/safety. We are definite... read more

Dear MB, We thank you very much for your feedback. We are happy that you are enjoying the community amenities here and proximity to Bart. Unfortunately, with any urban/densely populated area the potential for crime does increase. Please know that we are doing our best to work with our courtesy patrol company and the Oakland police department to reduce crime in our area. Thank you again for your comments. Best Regards, Kelsey Montano Community Director
It's really unfortunate that I have to write a less than desirable review because the location and amenities are good compared to what I've seen in Oakland. The problem is the less than responsive leasing consultants. I emailed several times with no response. Called and it rolled to voicemail, then showed up in person to try to get an appointment to view the apartment. They failed to clearly walk me through a good rental plan and even after I agreed to being interested they failed to email me with up to date openings in the ... read more

Hello Robert, Thank your for your feedback. I am very sorry to hear that your experience was unsatisfactory. Although we are a very busy office, customer service is our first priority. I have reviewed your posting with my leasing team to ensure that this does not happen again. I would greatly appreciate any additional feedback or details on what happened so I can properly address the matter with my team. Please feel free to reach me directly at (510) 444-6000 or domain.cd@fpimgt.com. I am sorry to hear you went elsewhe... read more
My husband and I did not enjoy living at the Domain very much. It wasn't horrible, but when it was time to go, we were really excited. The location is nice and convenient, but that's about it. ThIs is a horribly LOUD place to live. Our apartment faced the street and every night we heard nothing but loud people yelling outside. There were also at least 3-4 fire trucks/police sirens per day. Not to mention there were 3 instances of gunfire in the 9 months we lived there. The interior hallways weren't much better. Every weekend... read more

Dear Amanda, Thank you for your comments. I am sorry that your experience here at Domain was not to your satisfaction. While it is true that we can not always control what goes on outside, we do our best to ensure that your home is peaceful and relaxing. I am sorry that the convenience of transportation and close proximity to night life did not outweigh the cons of living here. We thank you very much for your feedback. Best Regards, Kelsey Montano Community Director
Domain is okay. The pluses include: close to Bart, walkable to Telegraph and Old Oakland, free bagels on Tuesday mornings, donuts from Donut Savant on Friday mornings, the cool art in the 'art gallery', and in-unit laundry. The maintenance staff are timely and fix what needs to be fixed, so that's nice. Overall, it's an alright place. The Cons: I moved in this June and have seen a tremendous amount of turnover in front office staff since I moved in. This weekend I had a question for the front desk and the woman working menti... read more

Dear MR, Thank you for your feedback regarding Domain. I am happy to hear you enjoy the weekly breakfasts, along with other things Domain has to offer. With regards to the staff, I am happy to hear we have been able to address any maintenance needs in a timely manner. As for our recent employee turnover, we have been fortunate enough to have a very motivated staff and have recently promoted two employees so each can further their careers within property management. At this time we have a new, just as motivated staff in p... read more
Leaving this review because domain has yet to come forward with this information and I feel like it should be public knowledge: This place is turing into a hotel. Or should I say the "Ginosi East Bay Apartel" to be exact. Domain didn't tell me this, i figured it out when i noticed 1) an increase in random drunk people screaming at the top of their lungs on week nights 2) fewer move-ins than usual 3) the fact that at least 4 units in my building have the exact same furnishings down to the bedspread and 5) from searching book... read more

Hello Dom, Thank you for your feedback. Domain welcomes both resident and corporate applications, and has since the building's opening in 2011. Although corporate housing is on the rise in urban areas, we can assure you that we still uphold and require that each application meets our corporate application criteria and screening process. With that said, these guests are held to the same standard of any of our residential lease holders. We are all for individuals going out and exploring the many day-time and night-time activ... read more
Hi Kelsey, Thank you for your response. I am glad to see you are still managing the community - I wasn't sure because I hadn't received a response from you from my email on May 22nd regarding the final repair of our apartment. While you are correct that we were (thankfully) not as effected as our neighbors, they too have expressed similar levels of communication (or lack thereof). And I understand your confusion of what was and was not offered as you were having to manage an incident like this that effected 20+ people (if no... read more

Hello Kayla, I am very sorry to hear about your continued frustration over the very unfortunate incident that occurred at Domain. However, there seems to be some misunderstanding regarding what was and was not offered to you. Within days of the incident (very end of January) I had an in person meeting with your co-occupant where I offered to let you out of your lease or have you packed and moved to an identical apartment on the 3rd floor of an unaffected building. As both of these options were declined, I made sure to expe... read more
I'm not really sure how to rate this place. I like living in this complex. But lately I think the crime has gotten worse and I don't really feel safe living here. Especially if you are in D building watch out as the noise from 14th street can be loud, particularly on the lower floors. Also watch out for noise if you are by the trash chute or elevators. . (For 3200 rent, it's about 100 for parking, 45 for rent tax, 20 for parking tax, and about 160 for util which includes internet) PROS - updated kitchen - 5 minute walk from ... read more

Hello Sharon, Thank you for leaving a review for Domain. We appreciate your feedback as it contributes to providing us with the most detailed insights into our valued residents' living experience at the community. Our staff is diligent in investigating the current rents of our direct competition for all of our apartment communities within this area. Oakland as a whole has seen exponential rent growth, and with all of our on-site amenities, interior finishes, and desired location all of our rents are currently in line with ... read more
This is a horribly run "community" - or lack thereof. The leasing agents there do not seem to care if you are interested in renting the apartment or not - they have one thing on their mind, and that is money. Do not be fooled into renting here. Sure the place looks nice, but the people couldn't be more awful to deal with. There are so many better places to rent - much nicer and cheaper. They will take FOREVER to do their due diligence and then blame you for not signing the lease right away after sending a 50 page document an... read more

Hello James, I am sorry to hear about trouble with the application process at Domain. We provide a very clear and precise outline of what is required to apply prior to the reservation of any apartment. This outline can be found on our Application Criteria, which is on each application. We are unfortunately, only able to hold apartments at the designated rate for a period of 72 hours. After that, we must be very consistent with adjusting the rates to the pricing determined by our revenue management system. We do everything ... read more
