I recently moved out at the end of May after Greystar acquired Domain from FPI management. I must say that this has been the worst experience possible with the transition between management companies. Domain Oakland now owned by Greystar has completely dropped the ball. It's been a month and Domain has yet to return my security deposit. I've contacted the new property manager multiple times. Called day after day, sent multiple emails. Update: Greystar Management has taken since he building was bought - and they are HORRIBLE!!! * If there are any good reviews left about this property or management, it was left by one of their employees. Honestly, look elsewhere to live!! We can not wait until our lease is up! Before I share my comment I would like to say that I was a potential tenant and have never stayed at this establishment. I scheduled a time to see a unit and when I arrived (even a bit earlier than the scheduled time), they informed me they gave away the apartment. I'm sure most people would assume that as a business, a common courtesy/good customer service would be to inform the person BEFORE they show up as to not waste their time. I have lived at Domain for about a year now and I am waiting for my lease to expire to move out. In all honesty, the building itself is great in terms of location and amenities, however, the management team here are absolutely the worst people. They are rude, unresponsive and a complete nightmare to work with - this is coming from a current tenant, I can't imagine how applicants must feel. I was very excited to lease an apartment at Domain. I even overlooked the red flags of trash and bed frames in the hallway and assumed it was a one off because the building came recommended and I really liked the 1br with a den I was interested in renting. After putting in my application, my old landlords were less than 2hrs over the 72hr window to submit the rental verification forms and they cancelled my application. I'm not sure why there are such low ratings for Domain. I think most people only review when they are irritated by things. So let me break the pattern. I have had nothing but positive experiences since applying for my place in February. Brittney, Danielle and Stephen are all extremely courteous and prompt in their management of the building. Very quiet and comfortable community to live in with great amenities! My favorite part about this building is the Meditation class held once per month by a Buddhist Monk from Thailand who is based out of San Jose and they always bring delicious snacks! I also really enjoy the Yoga classes with Grey twice per week! The building staff are very friendly and quick to address any issues you might have while living here. I've been living at Domain for over a year and I LOVE this place!!! The staff is sweet and extremely helpful. They put on events consistently and it creates a nice sense of community. I was a bit wary of cleanliness because they are animal friendly but, to my pleasant surprise, you wouldn't even know animals are allowed - it's spotless! Highly recommend it!

The apartment itself is very nice, albeit a bit pricey. And the gym is great and the location is solid. The negative is management - and I don't even think it's the people who work there but how they are treated by upper management. It's very corporate and inflexible - makes you feel very much like a revenue stream instead of a person. Don't like that aspect at all, wish they weren't so rigid and impersonal.
