I was very excited to lease an apartment at Domain. I even overlooked the red flags of trash and bed frames in the hallway and assumed it was a one off because the building came recommended and I really liked the 1br with a den I was interested in renting. After putting in my application, my old landlords were less than 2hrs over the 72hr window to submit the rental verification forms and they cancelled my application. I'm not sure why there are such low ratings for Domain. I think most people only review when they are irritated by things. So let me break the pattern. I have had nothing but positive experiences since applying for my place in February. Brittney, Danielle and Stephen are all extremely courteous and prompt in their management of the building. Very quiet and comfortable community to live in with great amenities! My favorite part about this building is the Meditation class held once per month by a Buddhist Monk from Thailand who is based out of San Jose and they always bring delicious snacks! I also really enjoy the Yoga classes with Grey twice per week! The building staff are very friendly and quick to address any issues you might have while living here. I've been living at Domain for over a year and I LOVE this place!!! The staff is sweet and extremely helpful. They put on events consistently and it creates a nice sense of community. I was a bit wary of cleanliness because they are animal friendly but, to my pleasant surprise, you wouldn't even know animals are allowed - it's spotless! Highly recommend it!

The apartment itself is very nice, albeit a bit pricey. And the gym is great and the location is solid. The negative is management - and I don't even think it's the people who work there but how they are treated by upper management. It's very corporate and inflexible - makes you feel very much like a revenue stream instead of a person. Don't like that aspect at all, wish they weren't so rigid and impersonal.

I lived here for nearly 2 years and recently moved out. I believe you can really see what a business is all about when you are no longer their customer, and the management at Domain have shown their true colors. I hate to leave a bad review, but I think you should know all of the ins and outs before deciding to live here. My biggest complaint is the disregarding of the lease and law and the dishonesty by management when I moved out. This is a deal-breaker for me and I want others to be aware. i lived here for 13 months in one of the D wing split level 2 bdrm apartments facing 14th street. from chatting with others, it seems that the D wing split levels are among the best layouts for the 2 bedrooms. The building is in a great location; close to Bart and uptown, walking distance to Jack London Square, Swans market, and Lake Merritt. I emailed this location asking for information on an apartment I was interested in. It has been almost two weeks and they have yet to respond. This is aligned with many of the other reviews which speak to the unresponsiveness of this facility. If they aren't being responsive to potential renters, then they will be even less responsive once you move in and they have your money and a signed lease.

The crime in this area has skyrocketed in the past year. It's a nice building but there have been multiple shootings (another one just last night that some people watched from their living room windows) and bullets have hit the building (bakery downstairs) in past shootings. I love the amenities and proximity to Bart but it's actually not safe. I don't understand how they are charging the kinds of rents they do when bullets can fly through your window!
