AVOID AT ALL COST. I rented a 5x10 unit for ~$80/month in June 2025. I noticed recently that the rent has increased by about 100% (doubled) and did not know about it as it was on auto payment. They said they mailed a notice to my home, which I never got. It's very telling that they send out office closure notices via email but do not send something like a rent hike via snail mail. 30% price rise is to be expected. Also expect to move your goods several hundred feet to/from your vehicle. Also, there are never any carts to move your stuff. Expect to spend 20-30 minutes rounding up a cart. Many complaints have resulted in zero response.

I went from paying $140 to $214 after 5 months which is ridiculous...the floors are carpet so it smells bad and it's extremely hot, no AC inside the storage units. The elevators are constantly going out and I have to go around and about to find one that works. You'll also find the homeless encampments around the building with used needles on the floor by where you park.

All I wanted was the true local phone number with which to reach "Joy", located at the 3883 Sherman St, San Diego, CA 92110 facility, but apparently covering phones for the 1560 Frazee Rd, San Diego, CA 92108 facility, where my locker is located. This place is a crock. They sign you up for a cheap rate and then your rate increases 4 months later (without telling you upfront) and then increases every 6 months after that. With the amount they are charging you'd think they would at least have HVAC. Our space is located on the top floor, so the heat is almost unbearable in the summer. The elevator and hallway smell is even worse. Also, the homeless encampments around the perimeter fence is unsettling. I signed up today over the phone--the price sounded great. But when I went in to get my storage unit, I was told that in just four months the rate will increase to fair market value. It would've been nice to be informed of that upfront. I'd recommend staying away from this place.

READ THIS REVIEW and all the other 1 star (become you can't go lower) Disgusting Facility Market rate increases? What market? Who decided this??? Over priced insurance 30 here and 16 at the newer, cleaner, metal doors, great locks no more than 8% if that raise at all! Light in the unit, 50% bigger, cleaner, better staff.... So again who decides the Msrket RATE?? In 8 months 4 different amounts billed to my credit card without notice?? I've never seen a crspper business with shady pricing... BAIT AND SWITCH PRICING - AFTER 3 OR 4 MONTHS. I find this company's ethics to be terrible and they practice misleading price gouging tactics. Booked a 5x10 unit - ($74/ MONTH TO $148/MONTH ON THE 4TH MONTH). I had a budget set for my storage unit and after signing up for a 5x10 unit with a base rate of $74/month they randomly changed it to $148/ month. DON'T GO HERE I've had the same storage unit for over 8 years. Never had an issue. Now this company Extra Space Storage buys the building, jacks up my rent by double without telling me - so I fall behind on the rent and BOOM my stuff is up for auction. They don't care about people or situations at all. I asked if I could make weekly payments to catch up - their answer - if you come in each week (not on line) and you're fully paid off by auction day. Which is only three weeks away.
