Don't forget to buy paper. And for Win7, you need a router or a USB2 USB-A Male to USB-B Male cable. WiFi Direct (R) is only available on Windows 8 and up, and that would be a pretty sweet connection to this printer. Only problem is that "Windows 8 and up" stink in every other way. 3 Toners in 3 Months! Purchased on November 16, 2018. The starter toner lasted a few weeks before needing to be replaced. The 2nd Toner was supposed to last 3,000 pages. On, February 4, 2019, I had to replace that toner for a 3rd toner. There is no way I was even close to 3,000 pages. It's been 3 days, and now the printer is again saying that the toner needs to be replaced. This is ridiculous! (All toners used were genuine brother toners.)
This printer and Brother's on-line support are not satisfactory This printer stopped printing and customer support after two hours passed me on to an outside repair service which used another two hours stated to me that the product was defective. I was told to to call l 800 284 4329. Their resolution was to go through the whole routine again. I refused. This service is a waste of time as is the value of Brother printers in my view.
Refuses to work with Windows 7 So for starters this won't work with a Windows 7 PC. Had someone work on it for awhile trying to see why it wouldn't work but works fine on another PC that's on Windows 10. Also apparently it can't even get prints right as pictured. The pages that did work I guess were of decent quality. This thing just must have awful software despite having all the requisite drivers for it not to work right. Also just learned you have to return it within a month...so we're doubly screwed
It works... for the most part. This printer was great until I had to change the ink. I bought the Brother Brand toner directly from amazon, no third party messing around, and it would not read the new cartridge. Finally after two hours on tech support, I got lucky and it decided to work, but I'm not looking forward to next time I have to replace it as it wasn't like there was an actual fix involved. frustrating setup there is very little setup documentation with the printer, the online documentation is confusing and the phone support is not knowledgable deer-in-the-headlights. The setup is super basic but Brother has managed to leave out significant details even tho all you need to do is setup id&password into the printer. The printer wifi wizard will find your SSID name automatic. Than you need to manually enter your wifi password. My password is 22 characters long in a 32 character field. Forces toner purchase Printer operates okay, but if you are one of those people that want to squeeze every last bit of juice out of your toner cartridge, avoid this printer. My last cartridge was working fine, but the printer refuses to print until I spend $75 on a new toner cartridge which is very frustrating. I would not recommend purchasing this printer.
Beware, you really do need a usb printer cable to set it up Setup instructions say you don't need a cable. However the setup process never completes via WiFi only. I separately connected the printer to my WiFi and I can use the Brother app to print from my phone, but I need to get my laptop connected. Guess I'll have to go buy a cable. This is really unacceptable in this day and age.
Died after a 90 days I used it a total of twice. Went to power it on and nothing. Followed the manufacturer's troubleshooting steps on their site and nothing worked. Called customer support and the agent wasn't exactly firing on all cylinders. The two prints I made did look good and Brother has agreed to send me a new printer, that's the only reason for two stars instead of one.
