The server on the rooftop lounge was working alone when we arrived and had what looked to be about 8 or 9 tables. This was clearly an understaffing issue - and we had to wait a long time to get drinks, refills, appetizers, main order etc. This is not the server's fault - she was great and overworked. The manager who was in he rooftop lounge was completely useless and not helping the server at all. It was my birthday dinner and we had a reservation. After we were seated at a table right in the middle we asked if we could have a booth instead. The server came back saying that unfortunately they were expecting larger groups and we could not get one. Our table sested 4 and there were two empty booths for 4. When we finished our dinner more than one hour later those booths were still empty as well as other larger booths. We were not happy with the way we were treated. We’ve been to Joey’s a few times and this was the worst service and ambiance. Food was good but service felt rushed. Our table was dirty and I had to request that it be wiped down. There was food on the floor and on the seat that I had to brush away. It wasn’t a good eating experience. We were celebrating my son’s graduation and it left us feeling like we should have booked a different restaurant.
We’ve been longtime guests at Joey’s Sherway and usually have great experiences, so it’s disappointing to say this was one of our least enjoyable visits. To start with the positives: our server was brand new but absolutely lovely—pleasant, smiley, and sweet. She took our order promptly and provided excellent service throughout the evening. We came to Joey’s for a business dinner with an important guest visiting from Edmonton, expecting a polished experience. Unfortunately, what unfolded fell well short of the standard we associated with Joey’s. Our guest ordered a frozen Bellini, but while the rest of us received our drinks, hers was delayed due to an ice machine issue. We asked for hot sauce with our meal, but it had to be entered into the system, which caused an unexpected delay. It took quite a while to arrive, and when we politely followed up after 10 minutes, we were met with some attitude. A small request turned into an unnecessarily frustrating experience.
I used to enjoy dining at Joey’s, but unfortunately, our recent visit was quite disappointing. One of the biggest letdowns was the removal of the veggie burger, which was one of the only decent plant-based options on the menu. As someone who follows a plant-based lifestyle, it’s frustrating to see already limited vegan choices disappear without any alternatives offered.
