We came here two years ago for breakfast and again today for dinner -- great food and staff. Try the French soda! We like the place a whole lot!! First floor bathroom could have been more pleasant but hey, it's downstairs. Maybe sit a person in front of it to collect small coin like they do n Germany so that people treat it better.
Busy place. I got the burger which was great. My wife got a chicken sandwich which first came out still raw in the middle. They took care of it right away and brought out fresh food. In the end the chicken sandwich was still just ok. Nice beer and wine menu. Some of the other food coming out looked good so we may go back in the future
Kramer's fits into that charming D.C. bookstore vibe set by others of it's kind such as Politics and Pros. I've personally found books here that are perfect as bookshelf/library additions as well as some quirky new reads that I wouldn't normally seek out. Highly recommended!
I was SO VERY DISAPPOINTED going to Kramer Books & Afterwards Cafe for dessert & coffee with a friend after having dinner in the neighborhood. I remember years ago when the desserts were fabulous, great apple pie and the amazing Kahlúa walnut Moose pie and others. Tonight when I went many of the lightbulbs were out, an obvious sign that The Cafe is not being taken care of. And the dessert choices were awful. BLUF: Very pricey and very small portions. Unremarkable. Flavors ordinary falling into two categories: bland and salty. Table service was top notch. Hosting 50/50; one was attentive and kind, the other uninterested and unfriendly. Worth going? Not so much. If I had included photos of our food, you, the reader, probably would deduct a star. Came for breakfast and got sticker shock from the prices. Staff was a mixed bag as the young man was quick and helpful but the young lady not so much. The plastic greens on the ceiling smell like dust. Staff dragging the wet bins were loud and grumpy. Avocado toast and Salmon overpriced. Everyone was yanking at their tough bread with their teeth.

I had an amazing experience at Kramers this morning! I ordered a coffee, the maple sausage patty, and the bananas foster waffle. The waffle was incredible--perfectly balanced and full of flavor! I requested no pecans on mine, and it was still absolutely delicious. The atmosphere was wonderful, with great vibes and a top-tier book selection. The books were well-organized and easy to find, making it a joy to browse. They also have a café if you're in a hurry and want to grab something to go.
What a delightful concept! Its really a place where you bring careful thoughtfulness, I see people browse the bookstore, study at the front like a coffee shop, or use this as a brunch spot. And when we do all these things, we're partaking in the magic of reading! I really enjoyed the food here! I got the crabcake pasta and it was seriously so good!!! I also got the mushrooms they had Parmesan and were cooked really well and so juicy and delicious! My friend got an octopus dish that I got to try and it was cooked to perfection. She also ordered the potatoes that I didn't try, but they looked really good. Our waiter was very friendly.
