We had the shrimp kebat and the chicken curry and both were excellent. The menu has some very interesting Burmese dishes that I will definitely return to try. The heat levels were described perfectly -- 3 stars will warm your mouth but not make you scream in pain. The tables are a little close together, but they were not busy so this wasn't a problem.
Went for the first time last week. Lovely interior: very stylish, light and modern. The menu said that the tea leaf salad would "awaken your taste buds" and it was an amazing experience -- full of interesting and delicious flavors and textures. The salad is huge - it's plenty to share between two people. The entrees are served family style and we could only eat half of what was served. It was all delicious. We didn't try dessert -- no room!. Would definitely go back.
Tables are a little to close together. Hard to have a conversation. Otherwise wonderful.
We had a wonderful eggplant dish and the lamb is superb.
Beautiful lighting for a small restaurant. Servers could be more personable. Food was good, but a little too sweet.
We had a very nice dinner - the food was very good & the service friendly - good change of pace. They will move you - they turn tables quickly - so don't expect a leisurely meal. What I do not appreciate from a Peninsula restaurant is a $25 corkage fee when our table ordered a bottle of their $50 wine pre-dinner. Most if not all restaurants will waive the corkage if you purchase a bottle of their wine also. Could not find the waiter after the bill was presented & they were ready to turn the table.
My friend and I went here for lunch. She had never had Burmese food and I'm a fan of some Burmese restaurants across the Bay. I was happy San Carlos finally got its own. The mango chicken is delicious. The coconut rice is the best choice with it (our server agreed). My friend went with the server's suggestion and got a rice noodle dish that he mixed up for her. It had chicken as its primary source of protein and was a mixture of many delicious foods. She was thrilled with it and the serving size had enough to take home for h... read more
I've tried their location in Palo Alto several times, so wanted to see how this location stacked up. The San Carlos location is definitely smaller, but it has a very cozy feeling, doesn't feel cramped or crowded. As with their other location, the food is wonderful. We started with the palata (always wonderful), then moved onto the Pumpkin Chicken stew, Sesame beef, House fried rice, and the String Beans (which can be a little too spicy unless you ask for mild). Everything was delicious and bursting with flavor. If you're loo... read more
My husband and I had the opportunity to dine here last week and we really enjoyed it. Great food and great service. Everything was very good - we loved the chopped tea salad. Wish we could have tried more dishes, but we got full. We will definitely come back.
