After four years of owning this machine... I wish I had purchased something different. I wanted a machine that could work for business purposes and also do a few color prints for various projects/crafts from time to time. 1) The color quality on prints is not high quality. Crappy Constantly have to clean the heads to get a quality picture or print. Wastes a ton of ink. Tried to contact brother and nothing. No answers or anything. Would NOT buy this product again.
Not your solution for occasional home printing I bought this to use at home when I am not in the office - so it only gets used a couple of times a week (if that). I like the wireless connectivity. It connects seemlessly to my phone, Alexa, and my laptop. You'd think that makes it perfect, but alas no. The pages come out feeling 'wet' and the ink nozzles dry up and block if it isn't in frequent use. Mine is now a $450 waste of space blocking up my cupboard. Cheap printer Frustrated with ink cartridges that are brand new brother brand and still printer says empty and won’t even print in black unless all are full. Lasted exactly 2 years. Will not buy a brother again.
Prints only when it is in the mood. Keeps disconnecting from the wireless network. Don’t buy it. It’s totally unreliable.
Don't buy Brother Got this printer because it came with all of the extra ink. After just 13 months of very lite use it stopped working. Since this model isn't made anymore Brother is going to "upgrade" me to a newer model. Problem is that it doesn't come with all of the extra ink. So now I'm out 2 years worth of ink. Won't ever buy a Brother printer again!
Ptr stopped recognizing new Brother print cartridges at about 16 months so it's useless I've spent a lot on Brother brand printer cartridges but the printer refuses to recognize them and thinks there's no ink available. Tried three new kits of Brother branded cartridges and it hasn't accepted any of them. It worked fine on original set but it's been useless since those ran out. Their L6200DW laser printer is great and expected similar quality for the MFC J985DW printer/copier but it's been a waste of space. Now looking at HP... read more
Disappointing printer. Bought this end of 2016, replacing it end of 2019. Paid around $270 for it, do very little printing, and still had to purchase more ink. Lots of paper jams and would never print photographs properly. I will buy a much cheaper version.
Get extended warranty or dont buy at all! This printer worked pretty well for me and my family for the 1st two years, but shortly after the 2 year mark, the product stopped working. It wouldn't even turn on. We never dropped it or spilled anything on it. We kept the printer in great condition, so I don't understand why it would just stop working all of a sudden.
