Beware - Impossible Setup The setup on this printer is hopelessly complicated. When I first got it, I spent several hours on the phone with tech support to set it up for use with my and my wife's laptops. It worked well for a few weeks, then we had a brief power outage at my house, and I haven't been able to get the wireless feature to work ever since. Decided not to print wirelessly, complete waste of my money and time All of a sudden my computer could not detect the printer on the wireless network. After hours on their website being directed from one link to another it had me try a different type of connection to my router. The printer would be great if it stayed connected The network adapter is junk. This leads to constant "drops" from your network, exaggerated in Mac OSX. The printer would be great if it stayed connected. Simply put: this is a USB printer, not a network printer/scanner. If you need a MFC for use over a network (wired, wireless, etc) THIS IS NOT THE PRINTER YOU ARE LOOKING FOR. -- and yes, I'm a highly competent network engineer/user.
Printer unusable while fax incoming. Our small business still uses fax communication. When this machine receives a large fax (20 p., for example) it prints each page as the info is transferred, which can take upwards of 1/2 hour. During this time the printer will not process print jobs from the PC, essentially leaving us without a printer. The unit we used previously (Canon image class) would wait to print the fax until all data was received.
Printing music at 12 pages per score can only print ... Runs out of memory fast. Haven't had this issue in the past with other Brother models. Check if memory is suitable for your needs before buying.
Worked until it didn't, connectivity issues that Brother's help support can't resolve, unfortunately. I'm sorry to say I had a difficult experience with this printer. It worked fine for a period of time, then I had to reset it and it failed to recognize my computer (which was two feet away) a number of times. Two tries to Brothers support helped, as they were able to remote connect the printer/scanning unit to my system, but the third time they were unable to help, even after an hour in their chat system. Forced to buy toner or it won't work Works well, but it stops working when it decides the toner needs to be replaced! Even though it's still printing fine. It won't even scan! Clearly designed to force you to waste and buy more toner.
CAREFUL IF YOU PRINT ALOT!! I'm very disappointed in this Brother Model, I CANNOT PRINT a full PRINT job without getting the "OUT OF MEMORY" Error message. The wireless is always asleep per day. Spending my time looking aimlessly for troubleshooting via brother online, book etc and NOTHING for my situation. Very frustrating and total waste of my days!! Will NOT PURCHASE ANOTHER BROTHER!!! This is my 4th one by the way.
