I wouldn't send my worst enemy to Tampa Bay Behavioral Center! It is simply a holding cell for homeless, severe drug addicts and drunks. It is 100% a scam for profit sake. Inmates are treated as prisoners. The staff act as prison guards lacking in any compassion or kindness. Upon arrival they purposely make inmates wait anywhere from 2-6 hours to check in. This place is HORRIBLE!!!!! I only gave it 1 star because there is no option for 0 stars. I recently spent 7 days in this facility even though it was supposed to be 3. I didn't get my blood pressure medication every day or on time. One night my blood pressure was 210/130. I thought I was having a heart attack or stroke. I asked the nurse (RN Joy) to call for an ambulance to go to the hospital several times and she refused to call. She gave me a blood pressure pill and told me to lay down. Worst place ever. The staff does not treat us good at all. The only good thing about this place is they let you smoke every few hours. The staff does not treat us like humans, only a few of them are there to actually try and help you. The doctors are helpful and nice, but the actual staff is terrible at their job. I got threatened to be put in the "violent ward" for objecting to being forced to be in there. All I did was look for out patient therapy and medication and they baker acted me! Would give it ZERO stars if I could! Called multiple times a day to get in touch with someone who was in charge of my mothers care and medical plan. No calls, left messages daily that were never returned. Literally had to walk in and demand to speak with someone on the 6th day of her stay. It took us physically going there to get ANY information on my mother. The nurses would only tell us that she was eating and doing activities. This facility was despicable. Aside from Liz and Chris on G-Unit who were the only light in that entire facility! I was sent from SMH which I thought was to help relieve the pain and cravings from withdrawing from Suboxone. I saw the MD more than 24 hours from admission. She promised to put me on one of the meds I had been taking-while I was detoxing due to unforeseen circumstances. She never did that. It was ice cold in the place. Absolutely the worst facility I've is ever seen in my life. They cant get your medications right. The staff is disrespectful and unprofessional. They should not be working in a fast food restaurant let alone a psychiatric hospital. The food isn't even sub-par. I can only describe it as being worse than county jail food. They feed us egg salad sandwiches for dinner and sent up three pieces of chicken for twelve patients seemingly to create a situation that would envoke a fight amongst patients. I just left this place a few hours ago. I've been in and out of facilities over the past few years and this one was the worst I've ever been at. The staff was rude and rolled their eyes whenever any of the patients needed anything. One tech in particular would always say "no" before getting up to get me something. They are also extremely unorganized. In my past units, procedure would be as follows: wake up, take vitals, take meds, eat breakfast, see the doctor. Whatever, you do. DO NOT GO TO THIS HELL HOLE!! A friend of mine was Baker Acted and sent here directly from a local hospital. It took me 3 days to get anyone to return my call regarding his status. I had to scream at 3 different staff members on the phone to even get a response. My friend was able to call me but was supervised and had the phone taken away from him during our conversation.
