Well I received the checks but I’m a bit confused. When I started this refinance discussion, I was looking to refinance the loan balance of approximately $230,000 + $20,000 to pay off the credit card + $5,000 to finish my families immigration. That total would have been $255,000. The total PennyMac came back to me was $256,000 and that seemed ok. Now the bad news. I did not like that at closing I was requested to place all of my PII on a single document. When I asked how the document with all of my PII on it was secured, the answer was unsatisfactory. I felt as though the lackadaisical mindset towards securing my PII was insulting and invited identity theft.

Great experience overall. Only thing I didn't care for was the request for a letter stating a break in work history for my wife when she was in Grad school. I asked why it was required and no one could give me a reason. We have multiple loans through PennyMac and this seemed odd. We eventually just submitted the letter to keep the process moving but no one ever gave me a reason why it was needed.
