Welcome to Pet Samaritan Clinic Pet Samaritan Clinic was established in the early 1900’s to care for the horses that pulled the trolleys from the Willamette River into the Portland residential area. Nearly 100 years later, the clinic remains in its original location on East Burnside in Portland, Oregon. Our little red brick building has welcomed many, many pets into its open door. We are always accepting new patients. At Pet Samaritan Clinic, it’s all about the animals. Since 1982, our skilled and compassionate staff has pr... read more

I can't quite put my finger on why, but the folks here are a bit aloof and the continuity of care is somewhat lacking. The perk is that they have a lot of availability and that's the main reason why I initially went there. If you have a relatively healthy pets they're probably good enough. However, I have an elderly dog with heart and neuro conditions. They refilled her heart medication in a tablet form that was 4x bigger than the one she has been taking for years, which has caused her to inadvertently miss some doses becaus... read more

Finally! A vet that accepts new patients! I am new-ish to Portland, and trying to find a vet for my fur baby was proving difficult. Thankfully i stumbled on this place in my new neighborhood. Everyone from the front desk to the drs and techs were so helpful, patient and caring. They explained everything clearly and took time to get to know my baby. And they all went crazy for him, which definitely helped. So happy to have found this place!
I've been a customer of Pet Sam for over 20 years, and was happy with the care they [mostly Dr. Sue Erickson] provided. I had a gap between cats, then the pandemic happened. Next time I needed their attention, they'd moved across the street and Dr. Sue had disappeared. When I brought my "new" cat for wellness check a couple of things bothered me: Nobody introduced themselves or wore name tags, I wasn't even sure who was the vet. And there was no dental exam, which is critical to health, pets included. I will be very intere... read more

Thank you for your feedback C G. Dr. Erickson retired in 2017/2018. We miss her dearly but know she is most definitely enjoying retirement. Covid definitely threw most of the veterinary industry (like so many others), through the ringer. We lost so many staff due to various reasons. We have since re-hired and are starting to stabilize again, while we are working on catching everyone up to speed and to standards. All of our CSR's are working on a continuing education training on client care & satisfaction. We hope that your n... read more
Staff may have a hard time understanding basic instructions and information about your pet. They may be extra sensitive about this, and be unable to handle it professionally. The vets and upper level staff are great, but lower level techs not so much. They do not seem to value, honor, or care about the unique bond between animal-person, and treat each customer like a number.
Business response:
Kelly, we are truly sorry to read your review but appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. Our number one goal is to offer exceptional care and service, so please know we take this feedback seriously. We have shared your comments internally and will be working hard to address each one.
I have had consistently good experiences with Pet Sam! My dog loves going there, and the staff seem to know her by name. We participate in their discount program, I can't remember what it's called, but we pay an annual fee and get reduced and free services, it's already been worth it. I also have pet insurance but it's been great to have both I really enjoy the drop off option as somebody that works full time and is the sole owner of my pup. Sometimes it's been hard to get appointments but I think they increased their staff ... read more

For more than 18 years, I remain a proud customer of Pet Samaritan because of their caring and kind, and prompt service. No matter if I bring my pets in for annual physicals (and I recommend Pet Samaritans' insurance plan which is affordable) --- or, nail trims, etc. Everyone, from the Front Desk clerks to the Techs and especially their fine staff of Veterinarians never disappointed me. When my one cat had to be put down in an emergency situation, the Techs were at the front door when I arrived and ready to help. My Vet (... read more

Thank you for your kind words Virginia!! We appreciate it more than you know and always look forward to your visits. Have a lovely week!
Positive experience during difficult times. Dr. Kennedy and team provide an invaluable service given all the constraints during the pandemic. I found Dr. Kennedy to practice with grace and humility. Her staff was focused, courteous, and professional. Some of these reviews on here made me second guess myself before coming in. I can only say majority of the recent negative feedback here lack accountability or compassion during trying times. I'm grateful to Dr.Kennedy and team for being able to see Felda and provide quali... read more

I have a dog with cancer In the middle of a pandemic the vets ( Dr. Kennedy) is willing to do a phone conference and get me a new prescription for pain medication for the sweetest dog on earth. Wow boy do I appreciate it. Life saver. (My dogs oncologist was not so flexible.) The vets at Pet Samaritan are willing to support your pet through their toughest challenges...and there by supporting you...
