One of worst dining experiences on Hilton Head that I have encountered. It all started with a server who obviously did not want to working. She never smiled once and was grumpy throughout the meal. After another server brought our meals she never came around to see if everything was satisfactory. If she had I could have informed her that my crab cake entree was cold. Our server Karen did her best to make sure our order was delivered….. we waited over 1 hour for our food, arrived at 7, received entrees at 8:30, none of the entrees were hot, 2 were sent back, when they returned one was still cold, completely unacceptable. This use to be our favorite spot at least 5-years. Something has gone terribly wrong. Host who greeted us was rude / disrespectful We were 13 min late and we got there he said oh make yourselves comfortable at the bar with no accommodations or effort to assist. Bar tenders ignored us and our waitress was condescending and rude. There were empty tables outside where we requested the entire time. Lovely Jamaican hostess helped us and finally seated us. We have had many great experiences with the restaurants on this island. ELA was a major disappointment! From the start - hostess had no greeting- just said our table was still occupied. Waited 20 minutes after our reservation and only after we inquired. Waitress was like the hostess- business like and move on. Nothing personable or welcoming. We have always loved Ela's . The food has always been excellent until last night. I ordered the scallops, which are always delicious However, tonight they were undercooked & the pancetta was so overcooked you couldn't eat it. My husband ordered the steamed lobster & it was so overcooked it was hard to chew. All in all, I was very disappointed with a very expensive evening. They need to do some work with the chefs in the kitchen.
The start was bad and the evening got worse..My reservation was for a high top in the bar area. Upon arrival I was told my reserved table was outside in the cold and rain. After i produced a copy of my reservation I was shown a table on the vacant third floor. Upon my rejection of that table , I was told a high top would be available in 60 to 90 minutes. I was very disappointed with this restaurant. It was very expensive and the service was terrible.
Food tasted decent, but both the cold food and hot food were room temperature. We ordered a drink, server brought a different drink with no explanation. When we asked where the correct drink was, waiter said they ran out and it wasn’t his fault, without offering any solution. We asked to speak to a manager due to server attitude, the manager didn’t offer to, nor did he take the drink off of the tab. He just kind of shrugged it off. This place charges fine dining prices and delivers Applebees service and attention to detail.
Huge delay on our main entree of over 30 minutes. One apology from the server. Food arrived and entree had crumbled bacon that was so over cooked I thought I had a pebble in my food. Waitress assured me it was just the bacon. The short rib was very dry. And after all that—no offer to comp anything. Just a quick drop of the check. We were here last year and it was amazing. Won’t be back—$140 for two is fine but the service and quality of the food needs to be spot on.
