We were a party of 2 and were seated next to a large group with 3 small kids. They were so loud that we could not hear the waiter. My table light was shining wight in my eyes. A waiter turned the lights down, but the large group wanted it back up. Finally had a waiter try to turn it but the bulb burnt out. That was not as bad as the noise level. The appetizer and salad were very good. We had to wait 45 minutes for a main meal. By then we had lost our appetite and took most of it back to our condo.Very disappointing.
Our last 4 visits, the food has just not been up to the standards we had come to expect. They’re trying but I think there’s been a big turnover in help recently.
The only reason to go to Ela's is for the water views not the food, but one could pack a picnic and sit on a nearby bench and it would be more enjoyable. The lobster bisque did not taste like homemade, and had no lobster meat in it at all. The hollandaise sauce on our Eggs Benedict tasted like chemicals, was it from a packet? Not sure. My husband and I both had a weird aftertaste in our mouths after eating, and I only ate half of mine (taking off the meat which was inedible). I made a reservation for a special event for 3. I spoke directly to someone who assured me that a heater would be available for outdoor dining. When we arrived, I was told that these were first come, first serve. When we went outside, all of the tables with heaters were empty. The outdoor temp was in the low 60’s and it was very windy and very uncomfortable. Our food was completely cold within 5 minutes. I ordered the mussels. There were NO mussels in any of the shells. I sent them back and they brought me a new order. Again NO mussels in the shells. I showed the waitress she was shocked. Spoke to the kitchen staff they yelled at her about it. I then sent them back a second time and left without eating. I spoke to the manager and told him he needed to go to the kitchen to find out why there were no mussels in the shells. Not one mussel in any of the shells. Sent back twice. They do not know how to cook steak.. when I sent back my supposed medium rare that was cooked through, they sent back a rare steak because they got their feelings hurt!! The rest of the food was good; however, the wait staff wasn’t very friendly or helpful!!
After an hour and 20 minutes our table had one drink but still sat without appetizers or any food. Management handled our complaint poorly. Unresponsive and preferred we left.
After more than 20 years visiting the island, we decided to try Ela's. The location was very nice over the harbor. We had outside seating. The waiter seemed to struggle with the level of service I'd expect from a restaurant that appears to be upscale. I was disappointed to hear "This evenings specials are" presented to another table after we had ordered straight from the menu. I ordered a steak, maybe not the best choice that Ela's. We had a subpar experience at Ela’s tonight. We arrived for our 7 pm reservation, and were immediately seated at a lovely table outside. After about 5 minutes, the hostess returned and explained that she needed us to leave our table because it had been reserved for another party. We had to return inside and wait an additional 30 minutes beyond our reservation time, and missed the sunset.
