Very disappointed.
I don’t recall having such a bad experience when it comes to food. My wife ordered Grouper which came out dry twice. I ordered crab cakes that had very little crab but more spice. For desert I ordered vanilla ice cream which tasted like it was freezer burnt. I should have known better since it was not one of the deserts on the menu. Our waited seemed to be non present.
Food was over salted. Broken window and flies, we’re a detractor from the overall experience. Wait staff was lovely, and comped us a dessert to make up for the over salting of our entrees. We had eaten there years ago, and had a l great experience. To say the least we were disappointed.
It was extremely overpriced. Majority of the entrees were $40+. My husband ordered the $48 special of the day and it came luke warm. We sent it back and it was obviously nuked and returned. I ordered Oysters Rockefeller and had to use a knife to cut through the layer of cheese to get to the tiny oyster. We were extremely disappointed! Will never go back again.
We are locals but this was our first visit to ELA’S, a Sunday early afternoon. We were seated quickly, nice table with a great view of the water. After about 5 minutes the host stopped by and asked if we’d been helped yet and we said no. He brought us water. Despite my request for a gluten free meal, it came with sauce and breading. When I sent it back, the server came back with it stating the chef said it was gluten free. Then I sent it back again because it was cold. Then another gluten version arrived which I ate some of because of their claim. Then someone appeared and said that wasn't my dish and gave me another one without the sauce or breading. I was both embarrassed and sick the next day. We liked Ela's before but will give it a pass next time we are in HHI.
Our family ate here while at HHI, expecting a delicious meal with a fantastic view. The view was amazing, but the food was mediocre and completely overpriced. Our server was inattentive at best. Very disappointed.
Our waiter asked if we wanted appetizers and we said no. He came back in a little while to take out order and first I asked for the grouper but I can’t have lobster butter. I asked if they could cook it in regular butter and he said no. Didn’t even ask anyone just told me no. . So I ordered a different entrée and a Caesar salad. A special graduation celebration for us so disappointing not served a beverage or bread until 30 minutes after seating. Tuna and swordfish fatty not the quality for the money. Seated upstairs near a super loud private party and could not carry on a conversation. The meals did not come out timely or together and by the time we were served had lost our appetite. We are local and had really looked forward to this experience. So sad!
