Would never recommend this place. Waitress had an attitude because there was a communication issue on the glass of wine my wife order. When we told her we received the wrong glass of wine she had an attitude. My wife told her it was not an issue, just loud in the restaurant and she must not of understood her, The waitress then when into what my wife had ordered like my wife was wrong. We arrived for our 6 pm reservation about five minutes early and were promptly seated on the deck, as requested, by a very efficient and friendly host. When we were seated it was starting to cool into the 60’s so we had them turn the heaters on. Nice view of the marina and the marsh. A beautiful earth evening day, very clear. Throughout the meal our waitress was not the friendliest or the most attentive. Service slow, restaurant not crowded. Wrong wine brought, marinara with mussels watery, light on garlic and heavy on crushed red pepper. Cheese cake served frozen and unable to eat. No apologies or offer to substitute something different. Bread in bread basket was burned
We had takeout from Ela’s many times last year and were excited to try it in person. Bad idea. Our server was very forgetful. He didn’t write down our order and seemed to have entered it incorrectly. We waited a long time for the charcuterie board, the cheese was cold as if it had just been removed from the fridge rather that be allowed to come to room temperature. The gumbo was good as were the scallops. The tuna had so much silver skin in eat it was inedible. I told the host as we were leaving and he said, I bet it did. The restaurant is hit or miss. The musical talent is consistently underwhelming. We have continued to give it the benefit of the doubt but after this last experience, we won’t be going back.
Second time eating at ELA's a few years apart and both visits were not good. We prefer the food quality and service at the sister restaurant The Pearl in Bluffton, SC versus what you get or don't get at ELA's
I don’t normally write reviews. I feel compelled this time. I have eaten at Ela’s a dozen times as a resident on the island. I have had great meals there. This was NOT one of them. We were seated and waited 30 minutes before anyone came over, but only after we asked what was going on. They promised to bring over bread, and never brought it until we followed up twice and eventually got it 20 minutes later. The hush puppies must have been from the weekend (totally stale). Made a reservation via Open Table. Upon arriving, the host/hostess seemed less than thrilled that we were there. Led to and sat in an empty room upstairs. Decided to move to the bar. Once settled in at the bar, ordered a drink, watched the lone bartender pour it and then forget about it. Made it up to us by pouring more scotch into the glass.
