I started going to Suburban about four years ago. At first it was a love/hate relationship. I really liked Dr.Benham, I really disliked the "front of house" staff. Recently I have noticed a marked change, and some new faces. The total experience at Suburban is very pleasant now. I am always taken on time, and I like the practical approach Dr.Benham has to animal care. Additionally, I keep returning because this is the best care vs. rates I have found since moving to Washington 11 years ago. I am not a wealthy person l... read more
Our family has enjoyed the A++ professional Vet Services & care fm Dr. Schrader & his staff for over 20 years ... & the fact that Suburban Animal Hosp. is only a mile fm our home is an additional plus! We're surprised to read some of the negative comments, because we've found ALL the staff to be VERY professional, polite and caring throughout these many years. Yes, the costs for care are not inexpensive ... but can anyone put an accurate or 'fair price'' on caring for a loved member of one's family? While parking at Sub... read more
My dog, Jack, will be 15 years old next month. He has moved across the country 3 times with us over the years and has seen his fair share of Veterinarians in his time. Also, I am a health care practitioner and have previously been disappointed with many of the Vet practices we've encountered. They only want to run a slew of tests rather than problem solve and are always pushing food, pills, procedures, etc, etc. Upon moving to Falls Church in 2008, we became clients of Dr. Casper at Surburban and I couldn't be more imp... read more
We've had nothing but good experiences with the vets and techs at Suburban. The only suggestion I would have would be to have separate areas for dogs and cats, as we've encountered a few inconsiderate dog owners here, but that's a function of the clients, rather than anything to do with the vets. There are a couple of vets here who specialize in cats, which is very nice, and all the techs are friendly, helpful, and calm and reassuring to our cats. Definitely a 5-star establishment.
LOVE this place. Used to take Lucy to City Paws, but now I realize how worth the drive is. Open 7 days a week, flexibility (Lucy was feeling icky, I made an appointment on the note that I'd cancel it if she started feeling better even with their 24hr cancellation policy, they were fine with that), very friendly front desk staff that clearly enjoys their jobs. Both vets we've seen have been great with Lucy - her first check up with shots, the vet was so gentle I think Lucy wanted to stay there forever! Also, bonus for ... read more
Sulley is not named after Disney's big blue Monster for no reason. Everything from exploratory surgeries (note the use of the plural form) to allergies, land us in the vets office on a more than regular basis. Upon discovering Dr. Schrader, the founder and director of Suburban Animal Hospital, we knew we had found ourselves a "forever" vet. During our first visit, Dr. S spent 45 minutes talking to us about the general health and bone development of our pup. I never felt rushed and he answered every question, no matter how ... read more
I really love this animal hospital. I always go to Dr. Benham who is one of the nicest vets I have ever met. She is always available for phone questions and treats my pets so well. I have two cats, both very rambunctious and playful, so it's comforting to me to know I have a regular vet. I've been going there since last year and since then I've gone there five times. The first time I went I had scheduled a neutering and was so busy, but luckily they let me drop him off at 8 am, and pick him up at 6. Over the course of that d... read more
Unethical business and they do not care about your animal's wellbeing: I am writing this to warn other pet owners about the shocking lack of empathy and professionalism we experienced at Suburban Animal Hospital during one of the hardest moments of our lives. Our dog recently had an ultrasound for concerning stomach issues. The vet called to deliver devastating news: possible cancerous tumors. As any distraught pet owner would, we spent the call asking questions to understand the treatment options and the gravity of the d... read more
Business response:
We are very sorry for the distress you experienced while discussing your dog’s condition. We understand that receiving news of a possible serious diagnosis can be overwhelming, and it is important to have both time and clarity when reviewing treatment options. During your phone consultation, our veterinarian discussed the ultrasound findings, possible diagnoses, and next steps. As part of caring for multiple patients, there are occasions when urgent medical situations require immediate attention. As was communicated during ... read more
I really wish there was some way I could put ZERO STARS The reason is during my last vet appointment for my husky there was a very BAD incident that happened to me and my girl. We were in the waiting room heading back to the exam room when all of a sudden this pit bull was allowed by its owner to come close enough to my dog so it ( the Pit Bull) could show its teeth and actually bite my girl. I had repeatedly told its owner to give us space and to not bring the pit bull close to me and that was ignored. The staff at Subu... read more
Business response:
We are sorry that you had a negative experience at our hospital, patient safety is one of our highest priorities. We would like to clarify that the other dog involved in the altercation was new to our hospital and we were not aware there was a the potential of them being reactive. The owner of the other dog was made aware of our hospital protocol regarding reactive dogs - their chart has been marked and they are now taken directly to a room and not allowed to be in the lobby. Luckily, it was not a "fight", some growling d... read more
