the food was awful, the service poor, and we will not be going back any time soon
Above statement is the only plus for this NOISY, EXPENSIVE DINING EXPERIENCE
I have dined here many times and until this last visit would make this my go to place in the theater district. We had a 545 reservation and did not get served our appetizer for close to an hour. We literally had to eat and run to make our 8pm. My osso buco and risotto was flavorless to boot.
Although service in the past has been fair, the food was great and proximity to Carnegie Hall in the winter is important. However, on this occasion the service was so terrible, I will be reluctant to go back. We arrived before 6 and barely made it to the show at 8. We didn't have time for either coffee or dessert. The waitress disappeared more than once. We had to seek her out for the check. As for the food, the vegetable lasagna and salad were superb.
Poor quality food at high prices.
The maître d' is either rude or the world's worst con man. He greets us warmly, promises to seat us at a lovely table within five minutes, and then ignores us. Checking back periodically, it's as though we had just walked in the door. Finally, after more than 30 minutes, we are seated at the worst table in the house -- on the runway at the front door. We are then ignored by our waiter. Mediocre food arrives after long waits and almost tripping our waiter to get his attention. I won't go on -- you should get the message we ar... read more
Despite having a reservation, we waited on a line that extended back to the front door in order to give our name. Everyone on the line had a reservation as well! After 10 minutes we were led to our table which was packed between another table for two ( literally less than half a foot away) and a very noisy table for a large group of 12. Our table was literally in the waiters' path as they squeezed by us, their arms full with plates, serving other tables. We were amazed that no dinners fell on us as the waiters jostled by us.... read more
Had dinner at Trattoria Dell' Arte on Friday Evening before a performance of Handel Messiah at Carnegie Hall. We were a party of 6 and were quite crammed at our table which is not unusual in NYC. The restaurant was very busy which is expected and it was quite convenient to be across the street from Carnegie Hall. The food was well prepared and tasty but overpriced. The service was lackluster. During the holiday season the restaurant does not offer their specialty pizzas between 5-8pm which was disappointing and not mentioned... read more
Food was unappetizing, overpriced, and served by a staff that wanted to move us through. Would never go back.
