We've eaten here when we find ourselves shopping in the area or with a large group from different neighborhoods, because it can be convenient to all from home or work. At a recent lunch with my wife and son all seemed to be going well, but when my spaghetti carbonara arrived with a fried egg on top, the egg was overcooked. Carbonara is a sauce based on a runny egg, so I asked that they simply cook me another egg. When it came back, they had indeed cooked a new egg, but this time to a dark brown bottom and a rock hard yolk. O... read more
Astoundingly overpriced no doubt because of proximity to Carnegie Hall. High marks, however, for the service which was attentive and helpful. Also, great ambiance. But just can't get past how expensive a dry and tasteless pesto pasta dish was. And I can't even recall what I had as the appetizer which tells you something right there.
Food was very mediocre for cost. Tables VERY close together. we ordered before 7 pm and they were out if their "special" lasagna. Dissapointing to say the least.
The top floor was crammed and hot making it uncomfortable. Our waiter was friendly but took too long to seve us our drinks. They were out of the specialty beer my husband ordered and instead of taking the time to come back to Our table to inform us our waiter just served him something else. Our food was served very quickly and was good. We were planning on ordering dessert but when our waiter finally returned to our table he didn't even ask if we would like dessert. At this point we were so disappointed in the service we tip... read more
Very poor service. They must work on it!
We ate at the bar. The waiter seemed be trying to upsell everything and we ended up with a large pizza (even though we asked for small), a salad and a chicken parmigiana for 2 people. It was tasty but it was an enormous amount of food. The beer and wine were good - although $9 for a glass of Sam Adams seemed excessive for a not particularly upscale place.
We always eat here when in NYC but this time we were disappointed in the service and the food. They kept turning the tables so maybe we had an off night. The next night we ate at Montabello on E 56th and it was SO good we went back a second time. Everything at Montebello was good in fact when we returned the second night late around 10 o'clock they remembered us and were so welcoming and gracious. At Trattoria del Arte we were just another ticket.
The best part of the meal was sitting next to Mary Louise Parker at one table and Will Swenson at the next table. The service was off. We had to wait on a line to check in even though we had reservations. The restaurant was gracious enough to start us off with some appetizers and prosecco (probably due to the check-in wait and hectic atmosphere of the dining room). After that, it took a long time to get our entrees, which were just OK. The seafood risotto was very wet and gritty; the filet mignon was room temperature and dry... read more
Prior to Carnegie Hall concert, we chose to eat here -- based not only on proximity -- but because of good Open Table reviews. It is hard to know why: though service was efficient and courteous, the food was disappointingly mediocre. Nice people and clientele, and we liked the ear on the wall, but thiis Is not worth the $$. Bottom line: if you just want a quick bite before your concert, restaurant is fine (though there are decent-seeming cafes around). Otherwise, don't bother. We won't eat here again.
