I've been a fan for many years and my last visit was a disappointment. The pizza is less than half of what it always was but now it's dry and without cheese and very pricy. The flat bread disappeared from the table, the service was mediocre. In terms of ingredients, the menu offers something but lies and delivers something else. Decadent!
We choose Trattoria because of its proximity to City Center, reviews promising to get us in and out in time for 8:00 shows and generally positive food reviews. Trattoria did deliver on the first two but was sorely lacking on the third. Our salads were passable though nothing special, but our main course (lasagna) was far from acceptable. This is a food factory masquerading as a restaurant. The waiters keep a sharp eye on your table waiting to grab your plates, without caring whether you'd finished or not. I was twice successful in turning them away. The third time, I was busy talking with my friends, and the plate was gone, while I still had not finished eating. The food was average quality with above-average prices.
The food was good but the portions were very small for the price. (it is Midtown Manhattan so everything is more but still seeemed small) The service was abysmal The wait staff was rude and totally screwed up the order. The beverage manager was terrific. some of the food can be very good, their pizzas are excellent and most of their appetizers are quite good but the night I went, the presentation was horrible. For a table of five we had four cold appetizers and sliced prosciutto. On a very small plate the four appetizers: shrimp with white beans, grilled calamari salad, eggplant and something else were all jumbled up and indistinguishable. Antipasta bar was excellent. My husband's fish had multiple bones in it and my Lobster Seafood Risotto was on the crunchy side. Would only go back to this place for lunch at the antipasta bar.
Expensive for very average food and service. Went there for Valentine day and got a last minute reservation - there is a reason for that. Felt it was too crowded and rubbing shoulders with the next table.
We were very disappointed this time around. Haven't been there for a few years and the food was terrible and the prices were much higher than I recall. It used to be a place for reliable Italian food with moderate-high prices. Now it was dried up lasagna for an silly price. Would not go back again.
