Not what it used to be. The warm olives were cold, the order for tea got lost, the fennel salad ordered was delivered as a glazed piece of fennel antipasto. The three bean salad was ice cold, the chocolate sorbetto had chips of ice from the freezer in it, and the warm chocolate chip cookies delivered on the way out are now rice krispie treats...
I used to love this place but boy, has it gone downhill. They are PHONING IT IN, and it's a shame. Their signature vegetable antipasta was really bad. And I don't use that word lightly. The bread wasn't fresh, the crackers stale. I would not go back and it used to be the go-to place near Carnegie Hall.
Overpriced, louud, caters to tourists. Decent food.
Average food with upscale prices
I have been to this restaurant many times several years ago and recently took a friend for dinner, having raved about it. I couldn't have been more disappointed. Not only was there not one reasonably priced wine, by the glass or bottle, but the food, as he put it tasted like cardboard. The incredible meal I had been building up to ended up being not only extremely expensive-$67 for a bottle of wine was the low end, but the anti pasto appetizer was generic and the entree was mediocre at best.
Food is good, but extremely overpriced! Service wasn't good at all.
At first the lasagne was not available, after ordering the fisg we were told the lasagne WAS available. It had almost no sauce on it. The tap water tasted metallic. This is unusual for NYC water. The waiter did nothing to report it to you. Service was slow.
The service was amazingly poor. The restaurant was not crowded, so I don't know what the problem was. First, we could not get bread, and then one of the servers was condescending. I have eaten here before for dinner and had a better experience. Maybe they treat the lunch crowd differently???!!
My wife had been there previously a few months ago and rated the restaurant as excellent. This time I joined her with another couple. The portions are very large but both veal chop parmigians that were ordered were over cooked and not very tender. They were served Lukewarm at best. Very disappointing.
