Awesome movie theater. Very unique vibe; great thing to do in Austin. BOOK ONLINE AHEAD OF TIME TO CHOOSE YOUR SEATS. This was my smartest move of my Austin trip. I highly recommend sitting in the front row to get an ottoman; it is handicapped priority seating. So, if someone needs that row you will have to move to their seats. Location is downtown and has its own parking garage which provides free 4 hour parking if the patron buys a movie ticket. This is helpful since it can be such a pain to find parking downtown. Just be sure to tell the cashier when buying the ticket that you'd like to them to validate your parking. They should give you a token which you can insert at the exit when you leave to mitigate the parking fee. Superb customer service! Concertgoers packed the parking garage forcing movie patrons to pay for parking offsite. The Violet Crown management tracked down those who bought tickets the week after the movie, and offered gift certificates because of the parking inconvenience. Who does that? We will continue to be loyal fans of the Violet Crown Theater.

This place is 2/2 so far for me. It's a GREAT bar and a GREAT cinema. I've yet to try the food, but perhaps soon. First, for the cinema, it's particularly awesome since they show films that may be hard to find elsewhere, but also often at least one major name film, which is a nice variety to have at a small cozy cinema like this. I must admit that I tend to be more of a Alamo guy when it comes to movies but I visited Violet Crown a few weeks for the first time. The space is totally amazing- very comfortable with a great little patio and a comfy lounge to hang out in before you're called for your movie. I did not have a chance to taste any of their food but I did check out other peoples' dishes and they looked tasty! The theater was very small which was great- there did not seem to be a bad seat in the place! I definitely plan to be back!

I've had two great experiences at Violet Crown. The first time, I didn't realize they had a full restaurant, so I came with my belly full. We didn't have advance tickets, but were able to buy tickets prior to the show, grab a drink, and get in. On the second go around, we planned a little better. Got here 40 minutes before show time with pre-purchased tickets in hand. I love that they have seat numbers and we don't have to stand in line like sheep to find a seat.
