I must admit that I tend to be more of a Alamo guy when it comes to movies but I visited Violet Crown a few weeks for the first time. The space is totally amazing- very comfortable with a great little patio and a comfy lounge to hang out in before you're called for your movie. I did not have a chance to taste any of their food but I did check out other peoples' dishes and they looked tasty! The theater was very small which was great- there did not seem to be a bad seat in the place! I definitely plan to be back!
I've had two great experiences at Violet Crown. The first time, I didn't realize they had a full restaurant, so I came with my belly full. We didn't have advance tickets, but were able to buy tickets prior to the show, grab a drink, and get in. On the second go around, we planned a little better. Got here 40 minutes before show time with pre-purchased tickets in hand. I love that they have seat numbers and we don't have to stand in line like sheep to find a seat. Instead, we ordered our dinner and drinks, sat at a table, an... read more
Can't believe this was my first time here! This place is awesome and can't imagine going elsewhere to see a good flick.
Last time we went here the service was much better. Still like Alamo and iPic a little more but it is cool to have this place as an option.
This is one of my favorite theaters in Austin. The staff are friendly and expedient, the food is spectacularly, and the seats are perfect. This theater not only runs the standard new releases, but also shows indie and foreign productions as well.
Wow, why have I never been here before? Awesome craft cocktails, particularly the Corpse Bride with genever and plethora of other liqueurs and herbs. Others have commented that the drinks are expensive, but I think they are on par with craft cocktails at other high end bars in downtown ($9-$12). They also offer super sized cocktails to last through the movie LOL. For food, we ordered watermelon salad, Brussel sprouts, and a Mediterranean plate. The sprouts are worth a trip here alone. Crunchy, bitter, sweet, salty, nutty. ... read more
If you would enjoy a refreshing film watching experience, then here is the place for you. Intimate and tucked away on 2nd street, this rare gem of a theater is one of the best kept secrets in Austin. We watched the Amy Winehouse film and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Great staff and service.
I often attend movies at the Violet Crown that I have never heard of and no one I know has seen. Their curation is so spectacular , the film is almost always excellent, entertaining and thought provoking . The intimidate theatre, great food and bar selections make it a terrific choice. You usually must buy your tickets at home on their website as the theatre is so small, it will likely be sold out.
Absolute best theater in town. Clean, small, great food, great staff, interesting films, etc. Its too bad that other theaters don't work to get to this level. I love this place!
