Have to give big thumbs up to the GM at Violet. He read my review and responded immediately. We were not looking for anything free but he offered some comp tickets to a show. Classy. Asked when, where, why with our negative experience and sounded like he was going to find out what's what. Good for him. I'd hire him personally......

Love this place! Sure, there's the drafthouses all around, but I like the Violet Crown because I never feel pressured to eat if I'm not hungry. You order outside and bring the food in, so people aren't walking in front of you and paying for the bill the entire show. The seats are kooshy and comfy and the theaters are small and intimate. The best part is that they are willing to play the Indie films that the drafthouses don't always carry. It's a great time for Oscar watching. So I've lived in Austin for 5 years and never visited Violet Crown. I've driven by it but never had a reason to go seeing as how I live in north Austin. A last minute decision to see a movie with friends on a Monday night landed me at VC. I didn't know what to expect. This is my single favorite place to go in Austin. It's a cinephile's dream. The theaters are clean, comfy (sit in front) and spacious. The audiences are respectful and quiet. And in the three years or so I've been a regular customer, I think maybe once I've seen them show a bad movie. The beer and cocktail selection is fantastic and the free parking garage is great once you get the hang of where it is. Go early and plan to eat and drink before the film, not during.

My sister and I went recently and it is by far the most wonderful movie experience I have ever had. The Violet Crown is a classy but not stuffy cinema that seems to really care about how your film is viewed. All the employees we encountered were attentive and helpful, especially when we were deciding on what to eat. The small theaters make for the perfect setting for any film and each seat is cushy and has an unobstructed view of the screen. This is a small theater with reserved seating, great drinks, delicious food and great movie options. Get your tickets online before you go and go early to have a cocktail before the show! The cake balls are always a great option for desert!

Just an amazing all around experience from the decor and environment to the food and beer menu to the excellent film, Whiplash. One of my favorite film going experiences in the entire country. Better even than Arclight Hollywood.
