The VC has 4 hr parking validation, a nice bar area with whole foods style snacks, and first run movies from the foreign slash indie side. tickets are pricey, so I only see first showing during the week. most films here also play at regal arbor art house, but that's a long drive from center city. the screens are very small be aware of that. some films demand to be seen on a big screen, so for those I see at regal arbor great hills or santikos bijou in San Antonio. for dialogue and plot driven fare, the NYC style small screen... read more

My favorite Austin theater! Yes, even more than the Drafhouse. Small theaters, great movies, good food, great beer and cocktail options. It's basically heaven for a cinephile like me! And - since this is often a problem in downtown - they validate parking for three hours if you park in the AMLI's parking lot!

Intimate atmosphere to see a movie. I thought the drinks were a little overpriced and if you get there early, you can't wait in your theatre - they call you about 5-10 minutes before the previews start to take your seat. This is not a full service place like the Alamo Drafthouses, but you order food and bring it in.

Where does one go when it's raining cats and dogs in Austin? violet theater! How cool is it to be in a theater that serves great food and alcohol? ot to mention the intimate and comfortable screening rooms. Great locations. Free covered parking. can't ask for any more!

We went to see a movie here after comparing times at Alamo Drafthouse and deciding this would be more convenient. It was a great decision! We arrived early enough to get a drink and sit on the patio outdoors (after a string of storms, the evening was perfect). The Violet Beauregarde was a delicious choice and perfect to enjoy right before seeing a movie. Yeehaw, y'all! I had the Margot Tenenbaum cocktail and it was great! It reminded me of an old fashioned with a lemony aftertaste, but the lemon taste complemented it and made for a great cocktail. The staff was friendly and the drink was made quickly. All around I enjoyed it here and felt the cocktail was stiff and had a good consistency to it. It reminded me of when I lived near Shanghai and would often drink proper cocktails. Good experience overall here!

First off I want to say , beautiful building , cool view , great graphic design. I like modern things and this is trying to be a modern theatre . It executes it fairly well . Secondly , first row is best row . You get to put your feet up , you have a great view of the screen . Thirdly, and this is the reason for only 4 stars. The theatre experience itself is fairly normal , chairs aren't that comfy, screen quality was great but sound was a little lacking. This is my favorite theater in town. If it is showing here, I will go without a question. If it isn't at Violet Crown, I will head to Alamo Drafthouse. Before I went the first time I was worried about the parking but I was stoked to learn that they validate parking in the garage by the theater.
